The former is busy securing Coachella headline slots and cleaning up at the VMAs, while the latter actress is hotly tipped for an Oscar win next year (and starring in controversial ad campaigns). The pair’s powers combine in an unexpected way in the trailer for the upcoming fright-fest The Housemaid.

The Sweeney-led horror thriller The Housemaid hits theaters on December 19th. The new trailer is soundtracked by Carpenter’s 2024 hit “Please Please Please,” although her once-breezy hit is given a suitably spooky makeover that matches nicely with the film’s themes, which follows Sweeney, who plays a live-in housemaid for a wealthy family that’s hoarding a few dark secrets.

Instead of the breezy ‘80s synth-pop production and cheeky vibes that Carpenter fans will know and love from the song—one of the lead singles from last year’s breakthrough Short n’ Sweet album—“Please Please Please” is instead given a scary makeover for the trailer that’s full of eerie strings that build a palpable sense of unease.

Sabrina Carpenter Is In The Spotlight Now More Than Ever

While Carpenter fans might have already shifted their attention to her new album Man’s Best Friend, which dropped in August, the album from which “Please Please Please” is taken remains in the pop conversation. Short n’ Sweet took home the award for Album of the Year at the recent MTV VMAs ceremony, where she also claimed the coveted prize of Best Pop Artist.

The trailer arrived on the same day as some other major Carpenter news, with the confirmation of earlier rumors that she’d headline Friday night at the 2026 edition of Coachella.

It’ll mark her triumphant return to the festival following her afternoon debut in 2024, shortly after her breakthrough smash “Espresso” propelled her into pop stardom.
