Palhinha grabs last-gasp leveller as Spurs deny visitors first win of season

Joao Palhinha netted a 94th-minute equaliser as Tottenham rescued a point against Wolves, who themselves earned their first Premier League point of the season in a 1-1 draw.

Santiago Bueno opened the scoring for Wolves after 54 minutes and the visitors were just seconds from a first league win of the campaign before Palhinha levelled deep into second-half stoppage time with a fine finish from the edge of the box.

Despite a spirited display from Vitor Pereira’s side in north London, the result keeps Wolves rooted to the foot of the table.

For Spurs, who were perhaps fortunate to take anything from the game, they move up to third in the table, four points behind leaders Liverpool.

Tottenham v Wolves

The first real chance of the game fell to Mohammed Kudus, who clipped the bar with a header at the back post, although replays showed it was in fact a splendid save from Wolves stopper Sam Johnstone.

Kudus began the match brightly and, in the 27th-minute, the winger saw the net ripple following a neat exchange with Lucas Bergvall, however, the goal was quickly chalked off for offside.

Bergvall and Richarlison then both went close as a half in which Spurs dominated for lengthy spells drew to a close.

But having not had a shot on target all half, Wolves came within inches from taking the lead when Matt Doherty shaved the woodwork from a tight angle with just seconds of the first period remaining.

Tottenham fans may well have been buoyed by going into the break goalless, given their side had not conceded a single goal in the second half of matches this season.

It was a record, however, that would end less than 10 minutes after the restart when Bueno bundled the ball home after chaos in the Spurs area.

From there, the hosts pushed for an equaliser but they offered very little by way of genuine chances, with the visitors limiting their opponents to long-range efforts.

That was until the final few moments when up stepped Palhinha to curl home the leveller with just seconds remaining and send the home crowd into a mixture of rapture and relief.
