Moon Knight’s MCU Return Has Perfect Project After Shocking TV Show Death

With a twist, Moon Knight is confirmed to be dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s final release of 2025, but there is already a clear path for Oscar Isaac’s hero to return in the future. In live-action, Isaac was last seen in the final episode of one of the MCU’s most unique TV shows, Moon Knight. He never appeared again.

Over the years, no concrete updates hinting at Moon Knight season 2 happening have been shared. The character has gone on to appear in animated format in What If…? Recently, a different version of Moon Knight was in the MCU’s last 2025 series, revealing a dark fate for Marc Spector. Despite that shocking reveal, the main MCU timeline can and should still use Moon Knight.

Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight Is Revealed To Be Dead In Marvel’s Latest TV Show (With A Twist)

Now that the MCU’s next TV show has been delayed, the franchise’s final release of 2025 is confirmed to be Marvel Zombies. The TV-MA animated series explored an alternate universe outside the MCU canon that was riddled by zombies. Many Marvel heroes died over the course of Marvel Zombies. Sadly, Moon Knight would be one of them, with the character dying twice.

Moon Knight’s first death happened off-screen. Shockingly, the Moon Knight we follow in Marvel Zombies is a version of Mahershala Ali’s Blade, voiced by Todd Williams. The show reveals that Khonshu’s fist died when the zombies emerged, which means that Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight died, and we never even got to see that happen.

The Blade version of Moon Knight would later come to die in the finale, being hit by the undead Scarlet Witch’s magic and disintegrated. As such, the two Moon Knights are dead in Marvel Zombies‘ universe, which takes out the possibility of fans ever getting to see how those versions of Oscar Isaac and Mahershala Ali’s heroes could interact, but an option remains.

Moon Knight’s Best MCU Return Would Be In A Midnight Sons Movie

While I was disappointed by the MCU killing Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight off-screen, Blade’s storyline in Marvel Zombies and his fighting scenes were so epic that I’m now more excited about Ali’s take on the character than I was before. Given that Marvel Zombies takes place in an alternate universe, the main MCU can still have the heroes team up in the perfect project.

After seeing Blade and Moon Knight connect in Marvel Zombies through the latter’s mantle, I can’t help but want to see how Oscar Isaac and Mahershala Ali would interact onscreen as the heroes. For some time, there have been rumors that a Midnight Sons movie could be in development in the MCU. The team is Marvel Comics’ main supernatural hero squad.

The MCU has already introduced many characters who could be part of the Midnight Sons roster, with a few possible recruits being Doctor Strange, the Scarlet Witch, Elsa Bloodstone, Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, and the aforementioned Blade and Moon Knight. Midnight Sons would fit the MCU’s plan of fewer movies per year and a focus on events, giving audiences more Moon Knight and uniting multiple heroes.
