AC Milan have long been credited with interest in Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, and according to Calciomercato, they’re preparing an offer to obtain his services in January.
Gomez has been getting very little game time under Arne Slot this season, the only start he’s made so far being in the Carabao Cup against Southampton, along with two appearances off the bench in the Premier League. As versatile as he is – a centre-back able to play literally anywhere across the back line and even tested a few times as a defensive midfielder – the 28-year-old hasn’t played at a level required to seriously challenge for a starting spot for a while now.
Gomez was reportedly close to joining Milan at the end of the summer, but then Liverpool failed to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace and decided against reducing the number 0f centre-backs in their squad.
Come January, Gomez will have 18 months left on his contract and Liverpool aren’t likely to entertain any cut-price sale at that point, so it remains to be seen if the Rossoneri can present an offer they find acceptable.
