Inter make it three successive victories while Frankfurt win 10-goal thriller

Inter Milan moved up to fifth in Serie A with a much-needed 2-0 victory over Cagliari on Saturday to make it three wins on the bounce in all competitions.

Lautaro Martinez scored nine minutes into the game and Francesco Esposito found the net eight minutes from time to give Cristian Chivu’s side an important three points.

Juventus, meanwhile, stuttered in their pursuit of catching league leaders Napoli as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Atalanta at Allianz Stadium.

Kamaldeen Sulemana gave Atalanta the lead in first-half stoppage time before Juan Cabal levelled 12 minutes from time.

Marten de Roon then saw red for the visitors two minutes later but they managed to hold on for a share of the points.

In the Bundesliga, there were wins for early-season title contenders Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Dormund beat Heidenheim 2-0, while Leipzig overcame Wolfsburg 1-0. Frankfurt emerged the right side of an extraordinary 6-4 scoreline that saw Dino Toppmoller’s side race into a 6-0 lead before Borussia Monchengladbach mounted a valiant comeback with four goals in the last half hour.

Bayer Leverkusen beat FC St Pauli 2-1 to move up to fifth.

In Portugal, Sporting moved level on points with leaders Porto after a narrow 1-0 win over Estoril Praia.

Luis Suarez scored the only goal of the game to move Rui Borges’ side above Jose Mourinho’s Benfica into second spot.

Porto, however, have a game in hand and could go three points clear with victory over Arouca on Monday.
