Gen V Season 2 Hints At How Homelander Will Be Defeated In The Boys

Gen V season 2 has set up a massive mystery in its opening episodes, which seemingly hints at how Homelander will eventually be overpowered in The Boys season 5. The mystery primarily revolves around the main character, Marie, and builds a key story beat that was first introduced in Gen V‘s opening installment.

Spin-offs are often seen as inferior extensions of their parent series because they either seem forced or bring nothing new to the table from a narrative standpoint. Gen V, however, stands as a rare exception that adds a lot more depth to The Boys‘ overarching lore and even does some things better than its parent series.

Even though Gen V stands as a well-rounded series in itself, it is gradually tying into The Boys‘ overarching universe. In season 2’s early moments, it even suggests that one supe might eventually have what it takes to beat the overpowered Homelander if they reach their true potential.

Marie’s Mysterious Connection To Project Odessa Is A Major Plotline In Gen V Season 2

Although most details surrounding Project Odessa remain unknown after Gen V season 2’s premiere, its opening sequence reveals that a group of scientists started working on it in 1967. The show later hints that Marie is somehow linked to Project Odessa after Polarity and Emma find her birth certificate in a folder associated with the project.

As Marie digs deeper into the mystery and tries to uncover the truth about her past, she learns that Cipher, who went by the name Dr. Gold, had helped her parents get pregnant through IVF treatment and was even present at the time of her birth. Throughout Gen V season 2’s early episodes, Cipher even tries to push Marie to her limits to help her unlock her true supe potential.

To Marie’s surprise, he even claims that she is capable of becoming the strongest supe to ever live and beat Homelander. His faith in Marie’s powers and potential seems to highlight that he knows something about her that she does not. This makes it hard not to believe that Marie is an “outcome” of Project Odessa and is expected to become the next Homelander-level figure.

The Truth About Marie Could Prove The Key To Beating Homelander In The Boys

Although Homelander remains extremely overpowered, Cipher’s trust in Project Odessa and Marie seems to suggest that she might eventually be able to give Homelander a run for his money in a one-on-one fight. There is, however, more to the story than meets the eye. Marie also learns that her sister, Annabeth, was a miracle child, who, unlike her, was born without any involvement of IVF.

ODESSA (Organisation der ehemaligen SS-Angehörigen) was also rumored to be a post-WWII organization, which was designed to help former SS members escape Europe and avoid prosecution. Given how Polarity and Emma find Nazi memorabilia in a secret room at the in the Godolkin University library, Gen V’s Project Odessa might be a refered to the real alleged cover for the Nazi underground escape-plans.

This raises the possibility that Annabeth is also being considered a primary subject of Project Odessa, and Cipher is only trying to decode which sister is stronger. Since little has been revealed about Project Odessa, there are endless possibilities as to where the story thread could go. However, after Gen V season 2’s opening episodes, it seems likely that The Boys‘ power hierarchy will change soon.
