Mohammed Siraj’s resistance ends in agony as India falls short of the target

The winning moment came in the 75th over of the fourth innings when the visitors were just 23 runs away from a historic victory. England’s Shoaib Bashir delivered the final blow, breaking Indian hearts and sealing a thrilling 22-run win at Lord’s. Bowling with flight and precision, Bashir tossed one up outside off to Mohammed Siraj, who had been dogged in defence throughout his 30-ball stay. The delivery landed on a good length and turned sharply off the surface. Siraj looked solid as he played it off the middle of the bat on the back foot, expecting it to die under the bat. But Bashir’s overspin worked its magic—the ball spun back further than anticipated after pitching and rolled onto the leg stump, just enough to dislodge the bail.

Siraj stood in disbelief, momentarily frozen, realising the dream was over. It was a heartbreaking end for India, who fought valiantly but fell agonisingly short. As the bails fell, the English players erupted in celebration—Bashir sprinted away in elation, chased by jubilant teammates, who embraced one another in pure joy, marking an unforgettable victory at the Home of Cricket.

England script a memorable victory at Lord’s

England secured a brilliant Test victory over India on Day 5 at Lord’s, thanks to inspired performances from their bowlers. Jofra Archer hit early, bowling out Rishabh Pant with a rapid delivery and later taking a sharp return catch to dismiss Washington Sundar. Ben Stokes was equally influential, claiming the crucial wicket of KL Rahul after a tense review and keeping up the pressure with aggressive, accurate bowling. Chris Woakes chipped in by removing Nitish Kumar Reddy just before lunch, pushing India deeper into trouble at 112 for 8.

Despite Jadeja’s determined half-century, England’s bowlers never let up, with Archer and Stokes leading from the front and fielders supporting brilliantly.
