Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Peacemaker season 2, episode 6.Peacemaker‘s latest episode is the most shocking of the season thus far, completely changing everything Christopher Smith thought he knew about the alternate dimension he chose to move to. After episode 5’s ending saw Peacemaker travel to the other dimension and close the door behind him, the rest of the 11th Street Kids decided to follow him and bring Chris back.
Episode 6 then focuses on their journey in this new reality, which features the characters making key discoveries that John Cena’s character had not been able to figure out by himself in the live-action DC show. By the end of the episode, Peacemaker can never go back to pretending that this universe is as perfect as it seemed, for good reason.
What That Alt Dimension Twist Means – DC Comics & Real World Connections Explained
Over the course of the first five episodes of Peacemaker season 2, many fans started to notice how there seemed to be only white people in the scenes taking place in the alternate universe. While Chris was oblivious to that, it did not take long for the DCU version of Emilia Harcourt to realize that something was deeply wrong with this world.
At the end of episode 6, Harcourt questions Peacemaker about it, and they both find out that the alternate universe is ruled by Nazis, as a United States flag at ARGUS bears the Nazi swastika. Parallel to that, Leota Adebayo finds that out the hard way, as she goes out for a walk in Chris’ neighborhood, only to be hunted down by Keith and others.
The Nazis are in control in the alternate dimension, which explains why Blue Dragon, a known racist back in the DCU, is seen as a hero in the new reality, adored by kids and everyone. The US being a Nazi country means that Adolf Hitler’s Germany was victorious during World War II, connecting to a specific universe from DC Comics.
That universe is Earth-X, which was used for a crossover event in DC’s shared universe on TV, the Arrowverse. In the comics, Hitler’s army developed mind control technology that helped the Nazis win World War II, leading to them dominating the world. The same likely took place in Peacemaker’s alternate dimension. This creates a completely different version of America.
Peacemaker‘s decision to use an alternate dimension that is ruled by Nazis connects to both DCU and real-world elements. In James Gunn’s Superman movie, David Corenswet’s Man of Steel was criticized for standing up to a fascist country and stopping a war where many would have been killed. Peacemaker now shows what a world ruled by those fascists looks like.
Given that Superman is an alien, it is possible that the character would not be seen with good eyes by those in power in the alternate dimension. That said, Overman is a version of the DC hero from the comics who was raised by Hitler to become the Nazi enforcer. Peacemaker season 2 already featured Lex Luthor, so a Nazi Superman could very well appear.
In the real world, the debate regarding a new wave of fascism has risen over the past few years all over the globe, but particularly in the US. Leaders are being criticized for authoritarian speeches and decisions, with groups against fascists forming. Antifa is one such group, fighting against those considered fascists and racists. Peacemaker has debuted a similar group.
Earlier in the season, Cena’s Peacemaker stopped a bomb attack from the Sons of Liberty. He was seen as a hero, killing villains. However, episode 6 saw the alternate dimension’s Vigilante reveal to the DCU Adrian Chase that the Sons of Liberty were the good guys and that Peacemaker was his archnemesis. The Sons are the resistance against the Nazis in the alternate dimension.
How Adebayo Can Escape The Angry Mob Explained
At the end of episode 6, Adebayo is running for her life as Keith and his neighbors chase after her. She will have a hard time shaking off the Nazis alone. However, given that Vigilante has been told by his alternate dimension counterpart about what is going on, he will likely save her. Episode 7’s trailer shows Vigilante shooting at the police to protect her.
Is John Economos Blue Dragon’s Prisoner?
Not having fighting skills and without backup, John Economos is seemingly Blue Dragon’s prisoner going into episode 7. After all, the DC villain stabbed his hand to the floor, making sure he did not move. Due to everything he knows — Economos has already let Blue Dragon in on the secret that Peacemaker killed his alternate self — he should be kept alive long enough to be rescued.
Will Peacemaker And Harcourt Escape From ARGUS?
Harcourt and Peacemaker were at ARGUS when the alternate dimension’s Emilia Harcourt arrived and told the guards to arrest the DCU Harcourt. Judging by episode 7’s trailer, which sees Peacemaker and Harcourt running away on the hero’s Peace-Cycle, with police and White Dragon and Keith soon ambushing them, it seems like the duo will fight their way out of ARGUS and run towards the portal.
Lex Luthor’s Cameo Explained – How It Sets Up The Superman Movie Sequel
Finally, Peacemaker season 2, episode 6, features a major return, as Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor makes his second appearance in Gunn’s DCU. At the end of Superman, Lex is arrested for his crimes and sent to Belle Reve. Peacemaker reveals that Luthor was sentenced to 265 years in prison. Rick Flag Sr. then proposes a deal to the Superman villain.
In exchange for helping them locate Peacemaker’s interdimensional portal, Lex would be transferred to another prison without metahumans. Peacemaker also teases Superman‘s sequel, Man of Tomorrow. The movie will see Lex and Superman teaming up against a bigger threat. Flag Sr. tells Lex he is offering him an opportunity for redemption, teasing that route for him after Peacemaker in Superman‘s sequel.
