16 Years Later, Dexter Finally Finds A Replacement For One Of The Best OG “Villain” Characters

WARNING! This article contains SPOILERS for Dexter: Resurrection episodes 1 & 2!Dexter Morgan is going up against a highly skilled new detective in Dexter: Resurrection, making her the franchise’s true successor to an original character introduced in season 2. Among the most significant new characters in Dexter: Resurrection is Claudette Wallace, an NYPD detective actively investigating Harrison’s murder of Ryan. However, while Dexter learned to easily outmaneuver Miami Metro and Iron Lake’s police forces, Wallace and the NYPD’s competence in Resurrection is much more intense.

Additionally, Resurrection marks the first show without Dexter having personal access to the police department investigating his crimes. Not only is Wallace proving more eagle-eyed than Miami Metro and Iron Lake’s detectives, but Dexter also lacks more intimate knowledge to throw the NYPD off their track. He’s faced numerous police-based obstacles since Original Sin’s timeline, but Wallace is the most primed to catch him since an FBI Agent investigated the Bay Harbor Butcher in Dexter season 2.

Wallace’s Detective Skills Make Her Dexter’s Worrying New Replacement For Frank Lundy

She’s The Most-Skilled Eccentric Detective Investigating Dexter Since Lundy

Wallace’s remarkable skills, eccentric personality, and unique approach to hunting a killer (such as listening to “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees) are reminiscent of Dexter’s original character Frank Lundy, an FBI Agent sent to lead season 2’s Bay Harbor Butcher case. Lundy, who left himself notes in a recorder with intonations and a demeanor similar to Twin Peaks’ FBI Agent Cooper, was a massive step up from the capabilities of Miami Metro’s homicide team.

Dexter had to be more careful than ever before once he arrived.

When he came on the scene in Miami, it truly seemed like Lundy would be the first person to expose Dexter Morgan as a serial killer. He didn’t miss any small details, and looked deeper into the elements of a case that Dexter might have expected Miami Metro to ignore. Lundy had been successfully tracking killers for the FBI for decades, so Dexter had to be more careful than ever before once he arrived.

That same feeling is creeping back up with Resurrection’s Detective Wallace. Past investigators looking into Harrison or Dexter’s murders might have missed the details about the toilet tank lid and Harrison’s attempt to clean up the crime scene – but not Wallace. That keenness was only paralleled in Dexter’s past TV shows by Frank Lundy, who unfortunately met his end after the Trinity Killer’s daughter murdered him in season 4.

Did Frank Lundy Know That Dexter Was The Bay Harbor Butcher?

Some Clues Suggest He Kept Dexter’s Secret Hidden

Considering how adept he was at tracking down killers, it’s long been suspected that Frank Lundy secretly knew Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher. There were several clues pointing to Lundy being aware of Dexter’s Dark Passenger back in season 2, such as knowing Dexter parked his boat at the Bay Harbor Butcher’s marina. Some believe he never turned Dexter in because, on some level, he supported him taking out killers who slipped through the cracks of the justice system.

A heartwarming conversation between Deb and Harry in Dexter: Original Sin season 1, episode 9 foreshadows one of her most devastating romances.

The notion that Lundy knew the truth about Dexter has never been confirmed in the TV show, but it’s difficult to believe that a detective of his caliber wouldn’t have put it together. Since Lundy also loved Debra Morgan, he may have hidden the truth to protect her more than Dexter. But without any personal connections, Wallace won’t keep Dexter or Harrison’s secrets hidden if she discovers the truth in Dexter: Resurrection.
