The Marvel Universe is the perfect comic book home for John Wick, and these heroes should be his first encounters, either as allies, or possibly foes. This list examines the top crossover choices that could help integrate Wick, and the wider mythology of his franchise, into Marvel canon to some degree or another.
Lately, Marvel has been invaded by the Xenomorphs from Alien, the Yautja from Predator, and even Godzilla. So, the idea of John Wick joining the party isn’t impossible.
This list considers the no-brainer heroes to team with, or face off against, the notorious cinematic assassin, as well as a few surprising picks.
Punisher
The Natural Choice To Bring John Wick In Guns Blazing
When fans think of Marvel characters for John Wick to team up with, Punisher is naturally at the top of their minds. However, Frank Castle would also make a compelling antagonist for Wick. In terms of bloodletting ability, these two characters would be guaranteed to go drop-for-drop with one another.
The Punisher’s brutal sensibilities put him on par with the toughest characters in John Wick canon, and it’s easy to envision just as many reasons to pit them against one another as pair them up. A story with the Punisher on John Wick’s tail, relentlessly pursuing him, might be the best way to bring the Keanu Reaves’ character into the Marvel Universe.
Daredevil
An Obvious Street-Level Ally For John Wick
Daredevil is one of Marvel’s best hand-to-hand, close-quarters combat experts, whose moves would fit right into a John Wick movie. Plus, his aesthetic isn’t a huge stretch for the Wick franchise either. That said, if Reaves’ fan-favorite assassin is going to head the other way, into the Marvel Universe, Daredevil is another obvious choice to help him get acclimated.
Sure, fans would love to get a glimpse of Wick vs. Daredevil, and a crossover could deliver this in classic “first hero meeting” fashion, before the duo got acquainted and turned their attention to a mutual threat. Daredevil is an example of a character who teaming with would help instantly establish John Wick’s heroic credentials in Marvel lore.
Deadpool
Wick Would Have His Hands Full With The Merc With A Mouth
Deadpool is one of Marvel’s most celebrated chaos agents. He is the character John Wick should crossover with if the plan is to throw Wick in the deep end of the superhero pool right away. They share some similarities, most notably their histories as high-level assassins, but what makes them a fun pairing is the sharp contrast in their styles.
John Wick isn’t humorless, but he’s stoic. Deadpool is over the top, and often can’t shut up. Deadpool has annoyed his share of iconic heroes, and it would be great to add Wick to the list. Plus, watching John Wick try to keep pace with the Merc With a Mouth, despite Deadpool’s regenerative healing powers, would add another fun twist to their dynamic.
Black Widow
The OG MCU Hero Is Already John Wick-Coded
Black Widow is another top choice for a John Wick x Marvel crossover. Widow and Wick could easily co-exist in the same world, and like Punisher, she could flexibly be deployed as an adversary or an ally for the cinematic icon, or even both. John Wick could be her next target, or she could be his.
Like Deadpool, Black Widow is one of Marvel’s most expert assassins, something a crossover could play on by giving her and Wick more than just a story, but a backstory. John Wick and his lore could be effectively integrated into Marvel canon by revealing that he and Black Widow have a history together.
Luke Cage
A Superhero Character On The Level Of John Wick
Luke Cage possesses superstrength, and enhanced durability, but he’s still regarded as one of Marvel’s more down-to-Earth heroes. He would make a fitting ally for John Wick, and is another example of a character who teaming with could provide more than just an entry point to the Marvel Universe for Wick, but a gateway to Marvel hero status.
In the inverse of the potential Wick/Deadpool dynamic, Luke and John are closer in line when it comes to their shared sensibilities. Both are willing to go to a dark place, but maintain a strong moral position; while there might be tension if the two worked together, they would ultimately find a way to get the job done.
Hawkeye
A Marvel Sharpshooter Who Could Use The John Wick Boost
Like John Wick, Hawkeye is an excellent marksman, one of the Marvel Universe’s best. He’s also an interesting case, because he would likely benefit from a crossover with Wick more than the other way around. He could help establish Wick in Marvel canon while getting a boost himself in the process.
Despite his longtime Avengers membership and prominent MCU role, Hawkeye is still often looked at as a B-tier Marvel hero. A strong showing in a team-up with John Wick would remind fans that he is just as badass as the cinematic assassin, especially if they went beat-for-beat, shot-for-shot in a high-octane action storyline.
Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes
A Similar Character Archtype To John Wick
Bucky Barnes is one of Marvel’s most dangerous heroes, and like John Wick, a core part of his character is his struggle to put his past as an assassin behind him, even if he is invariably drawn back into conflict and danger. Bucky would be a natural collaborator for the film icon in his comic book introduction.
There’s enough overlap between the characters to give them a unique interpersonal dynamic, and they can certainly keep up with each other in terms of action. Bucky and Wick might prove to be begrudging allies, but they would almost certainly develop legitimate respect between them by the end of a crossover adventure.
Wolverine
Marvel’s Most Efficient Killer Is An Obvious Choice To Team With Wick
The case can be made for John Wick to mingle with several different X-Men characters, but if Marvel was going to have him cross over with any single mutant hero, it would obviously be Wolverine. That’s because Wolverine is both the publisher’s most popular character, and one of the most eager to shed blood.
Logan and Wick would make a ruthless tag team, leaving no opposition standing in their wake. Their personalities are exactly the kind of match that might cause conflict between them, for the dramatic better of a crossover story, but once again, their heroic intentions would bring them together in a satisfying conclusion to a John Wick/Wolverine story.
She-Hulk
A Surprising Superhero Ally Who Could Usher Wick Into The Marvel Universe
She-Hulk might seem like a bit of a wild swing, compared to the other characters on this list, but that is because she is another more overtly superhero-coded characters who could help introduce John Wick to the more fantastic side of the Marvel Universe. Plus, she’s a powerhouse that could show him a thing or two about brute force.
She-Hulk is also one of Marvel’s smartest heroes, and her role as a lawyer could also factor into a John Wick crossover. Like Hawkeye, she stands to gain from the exposure to wider audiences that a crossover with Wick would provide, while she would show him the ropes of the wider Marvel world.
Elektran
An Assassin Whose History Could Be Blended With John Wick’s
Elektra is another character who could give John Wick a run for his money if they came into conflict, or could help shepard him through Marvel’s dangerous criminal underground if they worked together. Elektra’s lore as an assassin of the Hand organization, in particular, is ripe to be integrated into John Wick’s mythology.
The secret society of assassins depicted in the John Wick movies would fit seamlessly into Marvel lore, especially if combined with the history of the Hand. By giving Elektra an instant connection to John Wick, this would in turn provide Wick an immediate way to develop a presence in the Marvel Comics landscape.
