Xbox Game Pass has announced nearly 20 games for April that will be added to the service across various tiers, including several day-one releases. Games like The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on Premium and first-party games like Kiln are confirmed, and it’s going to be a great month for RPG fans. In addition to a number of great RPGs coming to Game Pass this month, one of the best Final Fantasy games of all time is also being added.
March was already a fantastic month for RPGs on Game Pass. Cyberpunk 2077 and Final Fantasy 3 were just a couple of great ones that were added last month. It looks like that tradition is thankfully continuing in April.
Final Fantasy 4 Has Come To Game Pass
Now, Final Fantasy 4 has finally been added to Game Pass. It was added to the service on April 7 for Game Pass Ultimate, Game Pass Premium, and PC Game Pass members. If you’ve never played it, now is the perfect time to give it a shot. While the previous Final Fantasy games that were added to Game Pass are solid, FF4 is really where the series began to hit its stride with storytelling and characters.
Final Fantasy 4 starts off traditionally enough, but Cecil, Rosa, and company are soon swept up in a pretty epic battle to save the world. And if you’ve ever wondered why FF fans think dragoons are so cool, well, it all started here with Kain. And that’s not even mentioning the villain, Golbez, or any of the surprises along the way.
Final Fantasy 4 Is Such A Fantastic RPG
Previous FF games might’ve used jobs and archetypes, but Final Fantasy 4 is really where those gameplay elements became seamless with characterization. This is still an old-school, traditional Final Fantasy game, but FF4 was really a leap forward from previous entries. For historical purposes, every fan should give it a shot.
You’ll also find elements that started here but would go on to be used in many later Final Fantasy games. Dragoons. Dual worlds. A storyline involving brothers. When I first played the game on the GBA, I was blown away by its cast and story. In fact, Final Fantasy 4 still has one of the best plot twists in any Final Fantasy game. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil it here.
If you’ve been on the fence about playing FF4, then its arrival on Xbox Game Pass is an ideal time to give it a try. If you’re already a member, you can play it completely for free (unless you have Essential, which it’s sadly not a part of). It’s an excellent RPG that FF fans especically need to experience at least once.
