Why Mainoo was absent vs Aston Villa

Manchester United suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League earlier on Sunday.

The Red Devils went into the game as slight underdogs, but they had a good opening half where the scores were level.

Morgan Rogers secured the win for the Villans at Villa Park, but United could have easily picked up a point in the game.

Matheus Cunha squandered a wonderful chance to equalise.

Kobbie Mainoo did not make the matchday squad for the encounter and it has been confirmed that he picked up a fresh injury in training.

The setback is only deemed as a minor one and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit to face Newcastle United on Boxing Day.

The Magpies are a tough opposition regardless of the game being at Old Trafford, and United must produce a strong performance to win.

Mainoo could be assessed in the lead up to the Boxing Day clash.
