In the 2025 edition of the World Championship of Legends (WCL), a jaw-dropping moment unfolded as a South African legend, playing for South Africa Champions against India Champions, turned back the clock with a breathtaking relay catch. Displaying athleticism that defied age, the veteran stunned fans and reignited memories of his prime.

The moment took place in the 8th over of the second innings during the WCL. The 41-year-old de Villiers rolled back the years with a stunning fielding effort to dismiss Yusuf Pathan for 5 runs off Imran Tahir’s bowling. Sprinting at full speed near the boundary, de Villiers caught the ball while sliding dangerously close to the rope. In one seamless motion, he flicked it mid-air to teammate Sarel Erwee, who completed the catch just inside the line. The extraordinary relay effort left fans in absolute awe. The catch quickly went viral on social media, with fans hailing it as vintage ABD magic.

South Africa Champions outclass India Champions with a dominant win

de Villiers turned back the clock with a vintage knock, powering South Africa Champions to a formidable 208 for 6 in their 20 overs. Leading from the front, the 41-year-old smashed an unbeaten 63 off just 30 balls, laced with 3 fours and 4 sixes at a blistering strike rate of 210. He launched a brutal assault in the final overs, dominating the Indian bowlers and giving South Africa strong momentum. JJ Smuts and Jacques Rudolph provided handy contributions, but it was ABD’s brilliance that stole the show.

India Champions faltered early and never recovered, finishing at 111 for 9. Stuart Binny’s fighting unbeaten 37 was the only resistance against a disciplined bowling unit. Imran Tahir and Aaron Phangiso spun a web with their three and two wickets respectively, while Hardus Viljoen and Wayne Parnell struck with the new ball.
