WATCH: Kane Williamson plucks a screamer to dismiss Jason Roy in T20 Blast 2025

Kane Williamson rolled back the years with a moment of sheer brilliance in the field during the South Group clash between Middlesex and Surrey in the T20 Blast 2025 at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

The Kiwi legend, known more for his elegant strokeplay than for eye-catching fielding efforts, pulled off a sensational diving catch to send Jason Roy back to the pavilion and leave fans and players alike in disbelief.

The moment came on the final delivery of the 7th over, bowled by Middlesex leg-spinner Luke Hollman. He delivered a classic leg-break — overpitched and inviting — outside the off stump. Roy, who had looked in fine touch, saw the opportunity and attempted to loft it over the extra cover region. At first glance, the ball seemed destined to clear the ropes for a six. But Williamson had other ideas.

Williamson sprinted back, kept his eyes glued to the ball, and jumped at full stretch. With impeccable timing, he completed a sensational catch in the air, stunning the Lord’s crowd into a mix of silence and applause. The incredible effort not only ended Roy’s aggressive start but also shifted the momentum briefly towards Middlesex, who were hunting for early breakthroughs.

Surrey hold nerve in a close finish

Surrey posted a challenging 189/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Will Jacks led the charge with a fluent 52 off 36 deliveries, while Tom Curran chipped in with a crucial 47 down the order. Ryan Higgins starred with the ball for Middlesex, claiming an impressive 4-wicket haul.

In reply, Middlesex fell agonizingly short, ending their innings at 181/6. Opener Stephen Eskinazi anchored the chase with a gritty 53, but the lack of partnerships in the middle overs ultimately proved costly as Surrey sealed a narrow 8-run victory.
