Dragon Ball DAIMA is a breath of fresh air in the Dragon Ball franchise, and Vegeta is at the helm. It brought back everything people loved about the series while adding a ton of fun new elements to give it its own identity. Dragon Ball DAIMA excels because it combines both the new and the old, drawing in new fans and giving veterans of the series a few great reasons to stick around. While DAIMA could have been just another iteration of Dragon Ball Z, it decided to take some chances in an attempt to be its own thing.

It succeeded. Not only is Dragon Ball DAIMA great, but it’s great because of how unique it is. No character exemplifies the healthy change of things more than the Prince of all Saiyans himself, Vegeta. Vegeta has always been the toughest Saiyan in Dragon Ball, but in DAIMA, he takes on a much different role that adds a lot of depth to his character in the best ways possible.

The Series Featured Everything People Love About Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball DAIMA might not have been what fans were expecting from the Dragon Ball franchise, but it still succeeded in a number of ways. First and foremost, the animation in DAIMA is leagues above any other entry in the canon (and even outside of it). Every moment in Dragon Ball DAIMA is animated wonderfully. From the moment the characters step foot into the Demon Realm, they’re met with one of the most fun new environments the series has explored.

One of DAIMA’s highlights is the new setting that the series takes place in. The Demon Realm was never explored in any other entry in the franchise, and the only time that it was really mentioned was when the former Demon King Dabura appeared during the Buu Saga in Dragon Ball Z. The Demon Realm is full of peril, and even has a few nice people willing to help the heroes along their journey.

The Demon Realm also provided a lot of lore for the series. While Dragon Ball DAIMA has some of the best fights in Dragon Ball, that isn’t where the series shines brightest. The backstory that it provides for the Supreme Kai, Namekians, and even Majin Buu himself makes the series stand out. The Namekians actually originate from the Demon Realm, leaving their home when conditions were no longer suitable for them.

The Supreme Kai comes from a race of plant-like people called Glinds. Instead of having a traditional mother and father, Glinds come from one of five Glind Trees that originated in the Demon Realm. The biggest area in which Dragon Ball DAIMA does better than any other Dragon Ball series is in humor. Dragon Ball DAIMA is hilarious, full stop. Dragon Ball has always been one of the funniest anime of all time, but it never prioritized humor. Instead, Dragon Ball wanted action to be its first priority, and there’s nobody complaining about that. Dragon Ball is known for amazing fights, unreal techniques, and transformations that define the art form of anime as a whole.

Dragon Ball DAIMA still has plenty of fights, special attacks, and transformations, but that was never the series’ priority. Instead, DAIMA wanted to put funny first, and it succeeded masterfully. Each episode is a romp, and there’s rarely a moment in DAIMA that isn’t funny.

Some of the funniest moments include the gang flying on a giant cotton swab looking plant when regular flying doesn’t work, finding out that the Evil Third Eye is actually just a normal shop item, and even the epilogue when Gomah and Degesu try their hands at video games.

Out of every character in Dragon Ball DAIMA, nobody has as many funny moments as Vegeta. Vegeta is not usually a funny character in Dragon Ball. He’s usually the most serious character around, having little to no patience for Goku and his antics. Still, Dragon Ball DAIMA takes the time to show a new side of Vegeta that proves he’s one of the franchise’s funniest members.

Vegeta’s trademark lack of patience is even funnier as a kid. When he first gets transformed into a child yet again, seeing him angrily walk around is already funny. He has several hilarious moments throughout DAIMA, including a scene where Bulma, Hybis, Piccolo, and Vegeta are all in a nightclub, the last place anyone would expect to see the Prince of Saiyans. Vegeta sticks out like a sore thumb, and when someone starts a fight with him, he ends it by knocking out several people at once.

Super Saiyan 3 Vegeta finally makes an appearance in the canon as well, and while it isn’t funny for the same reasons that his other moments are, it still deserves some attention. Vegeta turns into the third level of the Super Saiyan transformation and fights with his arms folded across his chest, letting Tamagami Number Two know that he isn’t even worth the Prince’s hands in battle. It’s one of the coolest things Vegeta’s ever done, made even funnier by the realization that Vegeta truly is one of the most arrogant characters in anime.

Dragon Ball DAIMA is the funniest entry in the Dragon Ball franchise, and Vegeta just might be the funniest character in the series. The best part of Vegeta’s humor is that it might be entirely unintentional. He never seems to want to be funny, and yet all he does is make people laugh. Even at the end of the series, when Goku is prodding him about keeping his Super Saiyan 3 form to himself, Vegeta can’t help but rebut by saying that it isn’t Super Saiyan 3 but ‘Ultra Vegeta 1’.

Vegeta’s humor brought a new side of his character to the limelight, and it was refreshing to say the least. The Prince of all Saiyans has always been one of the most popular characters in the canon, and his new traits in DAIMA have only made him more likable. It’s amazing to see Vegeta’s character arc as well, as he once started out as a vile villain. Now, he’s a loving husband who will even leave a battle if it means he gets to keep taking baths with his wife.
