Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2, episode 1

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 has arrived, debuting a massive new aquatic Titan to rival both Godzilla and Kong. However, there’s a pretty big mystery surrounding this new Titan’s actual true name.

For now, the mysterious monster is simply referred to by the show’s marketing as “Titan X”, though it’s already been confirmed that this is just a placeholder with the implication that the monster’s true name will likely be revealed in future episodes.

However, I think I’ve figured out the perfect true name for the MonsterVerse’s brand-new Titan based upon what we’ve learned so far from Monarch season 2’s premiere.

“Titan X” Has Been Unleashed in Monarch Season 2

As seen in Monarch season 2, episode 1’s ending, the mission to rescue Lee Shaw from Axis Mundi results in this colossal aquatic Titan being unleashed from the in-between dimension and emerging on Skull Island.

Immediately heading for the ocean before it can be stopped by Kong, Deputy Director Verdugo becomes Monarch season 2’s first major death after she gets hit by one of the creature’s large sweeping tentacles. Additionally, “Titan X” is accompanied by swarms of smaller beetle-like creatures known as Scarabs, suggesting some kind of symbiotic relationship between the two species.

Visually, the Titan is quite distinct and impressive, having a massive grayish-purple body covered in bioluminescent spines, bright blue dual-pupiled eyes, multiple fins and tentacles, and a maw filled with razor-sharp teeth. By all accounts, “Titan X” looks to be an incredibly formidable and dangerous Titan, especially considering how agitated its emergence made Kong.

All that remains is the perfect true name for Monarch’s new “Titan X”…and I think I know what it is.

One Name Fits The Monsterverse’s New Titan Perfectly: Poseidon

If the MonsterVerse sticks to established naming conventions, mythology has long been a key source of inspiration, with previously introduced Titans like Methuselah, Scylla, Amhuluk, Tiamat, and more all pulling from legend and religion, the idea being that many Titans were the true inspiration for some of these legends all along. Even the name “Titan” comes from Greek mythology (the deities who preceded the Olympian gods).

Keeping that in mind, “Poseidon” feels like a perfect fit for Monarch’s new Titan X.

With its massive tentacles and a monstrous sea-beast design, Titan X is clearly meant to evoke ancient maritime myths. Additionally, we learn in Monarch season 2’s premiere that the locals of Santa Soledad revere Titan X, referring to it as “El Gran Dios Del Mar,” or “Great God of the Sea.”

Not only do humans worship the monster, but it’s been said in the trailer that multiple forms of sealife worship Titan X as well. It’s also worth noting that both Kraken and Leviathan are names already taken by other Titans within the existing MonsterVerse canon, narrowing the mythological options even further.

All things considered, Poseidon definitely fits, aligning perfectly with what we’ve seen from the franchise previously. Time will tell if I’m right when Monarch: Legacy of Monsters eventually confirms the true name of Titan X in future episodes.
