Unraveling The Mystery & Shocking Twists

Warning: major spoilers for Netflix’s Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials.

Netflix’s Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials is a three-episode mystery show, and it’s packed with twists and surprising reveals. Netflix’s catalog of mystery TV shows continues to grow and now includes Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, based on the 1929 novel The Seven Dials Mystery.

Seven Dials begins with a party at the property of Lady Bundle (Mia McKenna-Bruce) and her mother, Lady Caterham (Helena Bonham Carter). Unfortunately, one of the attendees, Gerry Wade, to whom Bundle was very close, was found dead the following morning in mysterious circumstances. After finding a letter that mentions “Seven Dials”, Bundle set out to solve the case.

In the process, Bundle met Superintendent Battle (Martin Freeman), who was investigating the case, and they kept crossing paths as they followed the same clues. Bundle ended up finding out that Seven Dials was a secret society, and tried to stop their next move, only to be met with some shocking revelations.

Who Really Killed Gerry Wade In Seven Dials?

Gerry Wade and Bundle shared a special moment at the party, with Wade subtly letting Bundle know that he was going to propose to her soon. It made no sense, then, that Wade could have killed himself, which was suspected after a bottle of sedative was found empty next to his bed.

Bundle tracked the bottle back to Lady Coote, with her and her husband, Sir Oswald, becoming her prime suspects. Bundle’s suspicions only grew when she managed to attend George Lomax’s event, where the Seven Dials were set to intervene, and found Lady Coote and Sir Oswald among the guests.

Through all this, Bundle had counted on the help of Bill (Hughie O’Donnell) and Jimmy (Edward Bluemel), friends of Gerry Wade. An invention by Dr. Matip was stolen at Lomax’s event, and Jimmy was shot, and all clues led to Wade’s sister, Loraine (Ella-Rae Smith), whom they followed to a train. Once there, Bundle and Bill learned the truth.

Loraine and Jimmy had been working together and stole Dr. Matip’s invention, and they also got rid of some of the people who got in their way. Jimmy killed his and Bundle’s friend Ronny, who was getting too close to figuring their plan out, and Loraine gradually poisoned Wade at the party, planting the bottle next to his bed to make it seem like it was a suicide or overdose.

Loraine and Jimmy stole Dr. Matip’s invention, but they weren’t working on their own. Loraine revealed to Bundle that they weren’t going to meet anyone at the next station, as the person they worked for was on that same train. To Bundle’s surprise, that person was her mother, Lady Caterham.

Lady Caterham had no other option than to come clean to her daughter, admitting to planning the theft of Dr. Matip’s invention, and that the deaths of Ronny and Gerry Wade were unfortunate, but necessary. Lady Caterham suggested the party so she could gather information on the works of Dr. Matip, which she planned to sell outside the country.

Lady Caterham felt betrayed by her country after the deaths of her husband and her son, the latter killed in action in the war. In addition to that, the family had no money, so Lady Caterham saw a solution in selling Dr. Matip’s works.

Although she asked Bundle for a chance to leave the train before the authorities arrived, Bundle stopped her long enough for Battle to arrive, and Lady Caterham was arrested, along with Loraine and Jimmy.

What The Seven Dials Really Is Explained

Up to this point, Seven Dials led the audience and Bundle to believe that Lady Caterham, Jimmy, and Loraine were involved with the title group, but the show had one more twist saved for last. After her mother’s arrest, Bundle was taken by McDonald to meet the Seven Dials, who had requested her presence.

To Bundle’s surprise, the mysterious leader of the group was none other than Battle, and the Seven Dials wasn’t the evil organization she believed it was. Battle explained to her that the Seven Dials were an informal alliance formed to keep their world safe “in turbulent times.” This explained Battle’s presence at Lomax’s event, as he was there to protect Dr. Matip and his invention.

Battle then offered Bundle a place in the Seven Dials, the one her father once had, revealing he died during a mission for the organization. Throughout the investigation of Gerry Wade’s death, Battle witnessed Bundle’s skills and potential, which is why they offered her to join the Seven Dials.

After revealing they had a dangerous mission ahead and they needed someone like Bundle, she agreed to take her father’s place in the Seven Dials.

Bundle joining the Seven Dials organization at the end of Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials leaves the door open for a second season. As mentioned above, Battle teased a bigger and more dangerous mission for which they will need someone as skilled and intelligent as Bundle, with her agreeing to participate in it.

Bundle and Battle will continue working together, and Bundle will further develop her detective skills now with the help of the Seven Dials. It’s currently unknown who else is part of the Seven Dials organization, so a second season could also go deeper into that, while following Bundle and Battle on a new mission.
