Tottenham v Wolverhampton – Line-ups, stats and preview

Match Preview for Tottenham v Wolves

Third meets bottom in the Premier League this weekend as Tottenham host Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night.

Both sides picked up big wins in midweek Carabao Cup action. Spurs comfortably dispatched Doncaster Rovers, while Wolves earned a much-needed boost by knocking Everton out of the competition.

Thomas Frank has guided Spurs to three wins and a draw in their last four matches across all competitions, with the most recent league outing a spirited 2-2 comeback draw at Brighton.

That result leaves Tottenham level on points with Arsenal, separated only by goal difference.

In fact, Frank’s 10 points from his first five league games is double the total managed by Ange Postecoglou in his final 12 matches in charge.

The club is also navigating its first season post-Daniel Levy, who stepped down after more than two decades in charge.

Spurs have history on their side too. They are unbeaten in their last 15 Premier League home games against teams starting the day at the bottom, winning 12 of those encounters.

Wolves, however, will look to continue their strong record against the Lilywhites. The Old Gold have won four of the last five meetings and are unbeaten in this fixture since August 2022, when Harry Kane scored the winner.

Still, Vitor Pereira’s side come into the match bottom of the table after five straight league defeats.

Only Portsmouth (2009-10), Crystal Palace (2017-18) and Norwich (2021-22) have lost their opening six Premier League matches, and Wolves risk joining that unwanted list.

Team news for Tottenham v Wolves

Tottenham remain without several first-team players. Dominic Solanke’s recovery from an ankle injury has been delayed, while Randal Kolo Muani (dead leg), Ben Davies (knee) and Kota Takai (foot) are also absent for now.

Long-term injuries to Radu Dragusin, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Yves Bissouma continue to restrict Frank’s options.

That said, Richarlison is set to lead the line. The Brazilian enjoys facing Wolves, having scored six Premier League goals against them – his joint-best record versus a single club.

For Wolves, Leon Chiwome remains sidelined with a knee problem, but otherwise Pereira has few injury concerns. Midfielder Andre, who limped off against Everton with a calf issue, is expected to recover in time.

Arokodare’s well-taken finish in midweek has strengthened his claim to start again, particularly with Jorgen Strand Larsen still short of full fitness.

Expected line-ups for Tottenham v Wolves

The stats for Tottenham v Wolves

Spurs have won 12 of their last 15 home league games against teams starting bottom of the table.

Wolves, meanwhile, are on the brink of equalling the record for consecutive defeats to start a Premier League campaign.

Prediction

Wolves’ impressive recent record against Tottenham may give their fans a glimmer of hope, but current form suggests this will be an uphill battle.

Spurs’ attack looks sharp under Thomas Frank, and with Richarlison’s history of scoring against Wolves, the hosts should have too much firepower.

Prediction: Tottenham 3-0 Wolves
