The Terminal List: Dark Wolf star Taylor Kitsch has discussed how season 2 of the action-thriller prequel show could be even darker. The upcoming series will serve as a prequel to Chris Pratt’s hit Prime Video series The Terminal List, as well as providing an origin story for Kitsch’s Navy SEAL Ben Edwards, a prominent character in the original series.
The Terminal List season 2 was renewed in February 2023, but so far no second season has materialized, and Dark Wolf season 1 is due to premiere on August 27. The spinoff show will flesh out Ben’s backstory, focusing on how he became a Navy SEAL, and Kitsch believes the second season might be even darker than the first.
During an interview for ScreenRant‘s cover story on The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, Kitsch discussed the chances of a second season, and intimated that there are plans for one. He discussed how the second season would be darker than the first, and focused on Ben’s emotional turmoil, as well as being very character-driven. Check out Kitsch’s comments below:
ScreenRant: “Very much so. You mentioned earlier that there is an ambition to do a Dark Wolf season 2, I’d love to know, it’s still an if right now, but we know Terminal List season 2 in the main timeline is in production right now.
And what I find really cool is if we continue to follow this release order, it’s almost as if the original trilogy Star Wars and the prequels were back and forth, back and forth. It’s such a unique way of fleshing out this story. That being said, do you think season 2 is necessary? Obviously we want to see it, but where we end season 1, is it necessary to tell more Dark Wolf story?”
Taylor Kitsch: “To be honest, man, I didn’t even know much if anything about Ground Branch and what that is. So I can’t give, we have a hard outline for it.
And if you think this is dark, wait till season 2, and it’s not like a cliffhanger, but it’s truly an emotional fall that Ben goes once he gets into Ground Branch and you’re going to see the true repercussion to it and you’re going to see him just f–king go through a lot of turmoil, emotional turmoil.
So that for me as an actor is exciting to engage in because it’s different and it’s really character driven. Ben is kind of like the indie version of The Terminal List world, right? True Believer is going to be massive scope, man. I’ve seen a s–t ton of what they’ve shot and it is a f–king huge show.
And I’m not saying it’s not character driven, but I do say with Ben in season 2, it’s like Ben’s on his own in season 2 and you’re going to follow him through some of the worst parts of f–king what humans are capable of doing. And you’re going to see him emotionally attached himself to the work even more.
And that’s what I want to explore. So that’s where we’re going to go, to broad stroke it, but I definitely feel as an actor and to serve that guy, one more swing. I would love to f–king go one more.”
What This Means For Dark Wolf Season 2
The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is set to enrich and enhance the franchise, and could set the precedent for future prequels and spinoffs in the franchise. The fact that Dark Wolf was made before The Terminal List season 2 gives the character of Ben the perfect send off, as well as introducing potential characters who may appear in season 2.
Kitsch’s comments suggest that Dark Wolf season 2 could be a difficult journey for Ben, but presents an exciting opportunity for him to flex his acting chops, as well as take the character to new places. As a character who met his death at the end of The Terminal List season 1, Dark Wolf gives audiences more insight into Ben’s character.
Our Take On Dark Wolf Season 2
Dark Wolf will do an important job in helping to bridge the gap between The Terminal List season 1 and 2, as well as helping to flesh out Ben’s backstory. Whether or not the prequel show does enough to warrant a second season is unclear right now, but Kitsch’s comments are encouraging that this could happen in the future.
While The Terminal List season 2 is set to undergo book changes, Dark Wolf is an original spinoff, which means more artistic license can be taken. It also shows that the franchise excels when it comes to telling stories about side characters, and this could inform the future direction of the franchise even more with season 2.
