Viewers who can’t get enough of Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Resurrection should check out this critically acclaimed serial killer series streaming exclusively on Netflix.
Although the original Dexter series concluded after eight seasons in 2013, there have been two sequel series and a prequel show in recent years, quite literally bringing Dexter Morgan and the beloved franchise back from the dead.
With the success and popularity of Dexter: Resurrection season 1, resulting in a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 94%, a second season is a near-guarantee. While waiting for new Dexter content after Resurrection season 1 wraps up in early September, watch this Emmy-nominated serial killer masterpiece that was gone much too soon.
Mindhunter Is Another Fantastic Serial Killer Thriller Show For Dexter Fans To Watch
Fans of Dexter are very likely to gravitate towards Netflix’s acclaimed drama series Mindhunter, which was produced by legendary director David Fincher. Like Dexter, Mindhunter places a fascinating and sophisticated lens on the methodologies of various real-life serial killers to explore their inner demons and better understand their motivations for extreme violence.
While Dexter was a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro police department during the Dexter series, Mindhunter is centered solely from the perspective of the FBI rather than through the private lens of a serial killer. Some of the real-life serial killers depicted in the series include Edmund Kemper, David Berkowitz, Wayne Williams, and Charles Manson.
Dexter infamously speaks directly to the audience through his Dark Passenger narration, giving viewers an inside look into what makes him tick. In Mindhunter, FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) go to great lengths through face-to-face interviews to gain this type of rare insight, making for a riveting viewing experience.
Dexter: Resurrection’s Real-Life Serial Killer References Tie Into Mindhunter Characters
In Dexter: Resurrection episode 4, the fictional billionaire Leon Prater (played by Peter Dinklage) shows Dexter his private vault of serial killer collectibles. It’s a mix of sinister memorabilia from real-life killers such as John Wayne Gacy, as well as fictional killers within the Dexter universe, including Dexter’s signature blood slides.
Prater’s vault in Resurrection also beholds a few shrines for killers featured in Mindhunter, including Kemper and Berkowitz. Anyone with a fascination for serial killer-related true crime content would likely find Prater’s private museum quite interesting.
Dexter fans have likely already watched both Mindhunter and Dexter: Resurrection. Those who somehow haven’t seen Mindhunter by now, after its second season was released back in 2019, should absolutely add it to the top of their Netflix watchlist.
