The new Titan threat coming to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters bears a suspicious resemblance to an existing Titan in Legendary’s Monsterverse. The trailer and poster for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2 has officially unveiled Titan X, the creature who appears to be the show’s next main antagonist.
Based on how Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 1 ended, the next chapter in Apple TV’s Monsterverse spinoff series will take a look at what was going on in the Monsterverse in 2017, two years before King Ghidorah emerged from his resting place in Antarctica in Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
From the looks of things, Monarch, Kong, and possibly Godzilla will encounter a gigantic, aquatic Titan. According to the footage, this creature is “bigger” than both Godzilla and Kong. Whatever it is, it’s not something we’ve seen onscreen in the Monsterverse, but it could be something that already has an established presence in the Monsterverse.
Titan X Looks Very Similar To Na Kika
The end of the trailer gives us our best look at Titan X, who sports humongous tentacles like an octopus, an armored, cephalophod body, and an eye with double pupils. This design is a close match for Na Kika, a Monsterverse Titan discussed in the Godzilla: King of the Monsters novelization before appearing in the flesh in the Godzilla vs. Kong prequel comic, Godzilla: Dominion.
As evidenced by Dominion, Na Kika shares an anatomy that’s not at all unlike Titan X. It too boasts multiple tentacles, oddly shaped eyes, and a similar body structure. The two are not identical, per se, but there are enough similarities for it to at least be possible that Na Kika is Titan X.
The prospect of something in tie-in material such as comics and novelizations eventually becoming relevant to the Monsterverse’s movies and shows is hardly implausible. In fact, a clear precedent for that was set in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which featured Tiamat’s Dominion design in live-action.
With that in mind, Dominion’s Na Kika certainly can appear in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2.
Despite the connection, the more likely scenario is that Na Kika and Titan X aren’t the same creature – unless Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is intentionally making him appear more villainous than he seems. The show positions it to be a major problem in season 2, but Na Kika was a peaceful Titan that Godzilla saved from human Titan poachers.
This creature in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters seems far too huge and too dangerous to be Na Kika. However, it could be that Na Kika and Titan X are of the same species. If that’s true, it could be that Titan X is just significantly older and larger, which would make sense of the size and apparent power level differences.
