The Last Of Us Meets Stardew Valley In New RPG You Can Try Free Now

If you’ve ever imagined what an RPG that mixes elements of The Last of Us and Stardew Valley would look like, there may actually be an answer in a new game that you can try for free on Steam right now. In addition to being extremely popular, both these games have been revolutionary, which also makes it come as no surprise that other titles get inspired by them. For example, HumanitZ, a survival RPG on Steam, is heavily influenced by The Last of Us.

Now, a new game set to arrive later this year is showing its inspirations. Developed by BitQuest Studio, Ashfield Hollow is a new open-world survival RPG shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world. The game, scheduled to be released on Steam in 2026, puts you in control of a survivor when the world has been overtaken by the infected after a deadly outbreak that has nearly destroyed humanity.

The Indie Game Wears Its Influences On Its Sleeve

In this new game on Steam, you’ll notice that there are influences from both The Last of Us and Stardew Valley, as distinct as these games may be. Considering its post-apocalyptic themes of the infected, Ashfield Hollow pulls references from Naughty Dog’s hit title. You’re a member of one of the last human settlements on the planet, and will have to face hordes of the infected in real-time combat to survive and ensure the safety of the camp.

However, Ashfield Hollow is also influenced by Stardew Valley. In this 2D pixel art world, you’ll also need to adhere to life sim mechanics, which include farming, crafting, scavenging, and fishing. The title has life sim survival mechanics that will feel highly reminiscent of ConcernedApe’s popular game. Even the notorious fishing system of Stardew Valley seems to influence the fishing system in Ashfield Hollow.

In addition to that, you’ll also be able to expand your household and customize it to your liking with new furniture and workstations. Furthermore, you’ll also be able to create meaningful relationships with the other survivors in the settlements, helping them with missions and even bonding with them, watching as a friendship becomes a romance.

While Ashfield Hollow will be a paid product once it is released later this year, there is a free demo on Steam you can check out right now. Access to the demo does not require requests to the developers or any fees, so feel free to download and play a portion of the game via the gaming platform.

Ashfield Hollow seems like it’s one of those games that wears its influences on its sleeve, and does so in a meaningful way that pays tribute to the greats that came before it. If you’re a fan of The Last of Us, Stardew Valley, and maybe even Project Zomboid, be sure to check out this RPG on Steam.
