The Best Superhero Movie Trilogy Of All Time Is Not Batman’s The Dark Knight (It Comes Close)

I believe that the best superhero movie trilogy comes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though DC is the home of a very close second. Throughout the years, the superhero genre has been blessed with quite a few exciting superhero movie trilogies. Many of the MCU’s best movies come from those franchises, leading to heroes cementing themselves as absolute fan-favorites.

Where DC is concerned, the studio holds what might be the best superhero movie to date, The Dark Knight. In part due to that, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy is regarded by many as the best superhero trilogy of all time. While I’m a major fan of the live-action Batman movie franchise, I think Marvel has a better trilogy for a few reasons.

The MCU’s Captain America Trilogy Is The Best For A Superhero

Some of the best superhero movie trilogies ever include Batman’s The Dark Knight franchise, the Deadpool trilogy, the MCU’s Spider-Man movies, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy, and more. However, Chris Evans’ Captain America trilogy might just be the best of them all. Evans established himself as one of the faces of the MCU opposite Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.

Given how Captain America is a hero who is very much a product of his time in the comics, the fact that the MCU managed to modernize the hero while keeping his personality, origin, and values intact is to be respected. The MCU Captain America trilogy took a hero who could be seen as outdated and made his innate kindness cool.

Adding to that, there is no bad Captain America movie. The emotional throughline with Bucky resonates throughout the franchise, which includes a war epic, a movie that serves as the textbook for what darker, grounded MCU films should be, and a full-on Avengers crossover with Steve at the center. Evans’ captivating performances are aided by several stars to make an all-around perfect superhero trilogy.

The Dark Knight Trilogy Ranks Below Captain America For One Reason

When comparing the MCU Captain America trilogy to others, I feel the one that comes the closest to it is Batman’s The Dark Knight trilogy. The problem that makes the DC franchise rank below the Marvel series, to me, is that the Captain America movies are more consistent than the Batman franchise. Sure, The Dark Knight is a unique superhero movie.

However, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is not far behind it. Both franchises had strong debut films, but when it comes to their finales, Captain America’s was easily the best. The Dark Knight Rises is simply too convoluted a film, leaving much to be desired in terms of action, story, dialogue, and more. It is entertaining, but not exactly great.

While Captain America: Civil War was an MCU crossover, the focus remained firmly on Chris Evans’ Captain America and the franchise’s core bond between Steve and Bucky. Given that the MCU Captain America franchise remains consistently at a high level throughout its entire duration, it emerges as the best Marvel or DC trilogy of all time, despite The Dark Knight trilogy’s popularity.
