The Agency Season 2 Gets Major Filming Update As Michael Fassbender Teases New Episodes Continue “To Tighten”

Michael Fassbender offers an exciting tease for The Agency season 2. Fassbender led the cast of the Showtime political thriller, which followed the story of a covert CIA agent who has to abandon his undercover life. Already having to make adjustments to his way of living, things are further shaken up for him as one of his past loves appears, catapulting them both into the world of espionage. In addition to Fassbender, The Agency‘s leading cast includes Jeffrey Wright, Jodie Turner-Smith, John Magaro, Sarah Lightfoot-Leon, and Katherine Waterston.

Speaking with IndieWire, Fassbender offers a tease about The Agency season 2. The actor told the outlet that he is reading scripts now, with the series beginning to shoot in London at the end of April. Speaking on the series, Fassbender referred to The Agency as “a slow burn.” He explained what he meant by this and noticed that season 2 “continues to tighten” and “doesn’t let up.” Check out the full quote from Fassbender below:

“‘The Agency’ is a slow burn. You have to lean in as an audience member and do a little bit of work, but then the payoff comes through as it starts to ramp up and the walls start closing in. And Season Two, it just continues to tighten. It doesn’t let up.”

What This Means For The Agency Season 2

The Agency Season 1 Was A Huge Success

The Agency season 2 was officially confirmed for season 2 in December 2024, shortly after the series’ November 29 debut. This renewal came after the first episode drew in 5.1 million views globally, making Showtime history by being the most-watched new series for the platform. It is no surprise that production is continuing swiftly on the second season, and by Fassbender’s description, the team is far along in writing such that they will be plenty ready for the filming start date in the spring.

As for the content of the season itself, Fassbender is making big promises for the show’s sophomore effort. The Agency season 1 received positive reviews overall, getting a 68% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes. ScreenRant‘s Felipe Rangel gave the series 7 out of 10 stars, noting “Michael Fassbender is the perfect spy in enthralling thriller series on Paramount+.” If The Agency season 2 raises the bar to the extent that Fassbender describes, this second season could be even more highly rated than the first, which also bodes well for its viewership.

Our Take On Fassbender’s The Agency Statement

The Agency Season 2 Could Fall Into A Good Paramount+ Trend

The Agency is a collaboration between Showtime and Paramount+, the latter of which has made a commitment to making star-studded, high-caliber shows in recent years. Paramount+ has a tendency to do well from its first to second seasons, with shows like Lioness, Tulsa King, and Mayor of Kingstown all seeing improvements from season 1 to season 2. The Agency is already starting from a decent baseline, but its improvement potential will be high if the season goes as well as Fassbender promises.
