Steam’s New Free Survival RPG Is Like Stardew Valley Meets Valheim

Steam has been offering some hot deals lately, giving PC gamers a ton of new titles to try out for free, not to mention adding dozens of free-to-play games every month. One new addition to the free-to-play library has just rolled out of Early Access, and fans of Stardew Valley and/or Valheim will definitely want to give it a try.

In Next Life is an exciting new action-survival RPG with civilization-building simulation elements, and it just recently launched out of Early Access with its free-to-play full version, available to play now on Steam. If you’ve ever wanted to start as a caveman and experience human history unfold firsthand, In Next Life is worth checking out.

In Next Life Is Free On Steam

Back To The Stone Age

In Next Life is a unique online multiplayer game with civilization-simulation-based gameplay that starts players off in the Stone Age and leaves them to their own devices to survive through human history to modern times. Players use the technology at their disposal to survive across generations, with multiplayer elements that are encouraged but not strictly necessary to play. That said, it’s far easier to survive In Next Life (and in real-life for that matter) if you collaborate and work to help other players.

The game features a unique time-spanning mechanic that results in early decisions having a sort of butterfly effect on future generations. “The goal of each life is to contribute as much as possible to the survival and development of your tribe, children, and future descendants” by crafting and developing technologies, with thousands of craftable items available in the game.

In Next Life has been available to play in Early Access for some time now, initially releasing as a work-in-progress back in 2021. In that time, In Next Life has garnered a bit of a cult following, and if you want to see what the hype is about, you can check it out for free now on Steam.

This Survival RPG Looks Genuinely Great

It’s Like A Stardew, Valheim, & Civ 6 Ménage à Trois

If you’re a fan of civilization-building and/or life-sim gameplay, In Next Life is a must-play. It’s a unique civ-style game in that sometimes you actually want your character to die, i.e., “It is fine to die now and then, [and] sometimes your tribe’s survival may depend on your sacrifice.”

In Next Life was highly regarded among fans during its Early Access period, with many players likening it to a similarly styled game called One Hour, One Life, which features an equally compelling (albeit more complex) time-spanning civilization mechanic. However, it’s worth noting some players have voiced concerns that the free-to-play version could introduce pay-to-win content, though it’s unclear at this time to what extent it will impact the game’s multiplayer experience.

Further, if you happened to be an early supporter and purchaser of In Next Life while it was in Early Access, developers have stated that “those who have already paid for the game will get some in-game purchases at no extra cost once the game becomes Free2Play, so you will get good value for the money you have spent.”

All told, civ and life-sim fans will definitely want to see what In Next Life has to offer, and you can see for yourself for free on Steam now.
