A new open-world fantasy RPG can be enjoyed for free on Steam, and it boasts serious The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim vibes. Bethesda’s hit RPG has served as a huge inspiration for many other games since its release in 2011. Players are eagerly waiting for the next title in the series, but you can spend your time with Skyrim-like games, some of which are even free, as you await. Now, a new title that looks a lot like it has just been released.
Faehnor Online is a new MMORPG available on Steam, released in early February. The title is set in a high fantasy world. Technically speaking, it is still in early access, but you can already play it for free by adding it to your library via its Steam page and downloading it. The game follows the mold left by other big MMOs, but brings unique twists, such as the lack of classes and quest markers, as well as a heavy focus on exploration without facilitated navigation systems.
Faehnor Online Is Staggeringly Impressive For A Solo Effort
The MMORPG Has A Unique Exploration Mechanic
Faehnor Online is an MMORPG created by a single developer, as is evidenced by its product page. This new free RPG on Steam looks rather impressive, considering that a single person is behind the whole game. The project started with two people back in 2019, but has since been handled by one developer.
From what can be seen in terms of both visuals and gameplay mechanics, the effort is deserving of applause. Faehnor Online looks really good, and its unique take on the MMORPG genre is rather interesting, as it is quite literally a world to get lost in. You’ll rely on maps to find your way through the game instead of icons on your compass, and keeping an eye out for what happens around you may be the key to success and progress.

Faehnor Online Seems Like A Fun MMORPG
One thing that is very clear is that Faehnor Online draws inspiration from Skyrim in more ways than one. The MMORPG has a similar approach to its art style, even if it differentiates itself enough to be unique. The way that key locations seem to be structured, as well as interactions with NPCs and the third-person perspective, are all similar to Bethesda’s hit RPG (though you can play in first-person in Skyrim).
It is worth noting that this is still an MMORPG, so there will be a few key differences in how the world presents itself to players when compared to how a structured single-player world behaves. The game will eventually have microtransactions represented by a premium item shop, though it is described as “non-pay-to-win” by the developer.
Even so, Faehnor Online does seem like a fun way of spending your time as you wait for the big sequel to Skyrim in The Elder Scrolls 6. The best part is that it’s a free RPG that you can play on Steam right now.
