You can’t beat getting a free game on Steam, especially when the reviews are saying it’s actually really good. Sometimes we all crave something a little different, but our budgets may not allow for much novelty and experimenting with new games. That’s when the free games can really shine, while also giving developers a chance to get their names and games out there.
Gaming service Steam often has games available to download for free, and naturally, some are better than others. Whenever the price tag is zero, it’s easy to assume that there’s a reason behind that. And usually that reason is not positive. However, this recent addition, which launched in February, shows that while it may be weird, a free game can also provide hours of laughter and enjoyment.
Hobby Horse: First Ride Is A Weird One
Single Player Racing Game With A Lot Of Character
Yes, this new racing game isn’t your run-of-the-mill racer. Even for horse racing, Hobby Horse: First Ride is a unique experience that brings us back to the joy of childhood imagination. Currently available for free on Steam, it’s getting positive reviews and looks like it is not only a lot of fun, but has quite a bit to offer.
In Hobby Horse: First Ride, you get to use several customization settings to DIY your own hobby horse and then take it out for a spin. The single-player game has several obstacle courses in areas like a gym or forest, where you can learn how to do tricks and try mastering the maps.
Like many racing games, there are boosters and different powers to use as you leap gracefully over obstacles and try not to crash into the wall. The game also offers eight Steam Achievements to try to collect, perfect for completionists.
It Has Positive Reviews So Far
A Free Game With Detailed Graphics And Surprisingly Good Gameplay
At the time of writing, there are only 45 reviews for Hobby Horse: First Ride, but despite having very few people playing it, the reviews are mostly positive. Generally, players seem to appreciate the detailed graphics and sense of humor in the game, with negative reviews focusing mostly on issues with motion sickness due to the camera position and general movement of the first- person viewpoint.
If you, like me, get motion sickness in some games, then approach Hobby Horse First Ride with caution.
If you like Hobby Horse: First Ride, a full game titled simply Hobby Horse will be released sometime later this year and is available to wishlist now. Presumably, that one will not be free, but will also offer many more customizations and courses to try out. In the meantime, why not give the free version a spin and unlock your inner child as you race around on your hobby horse on Steam today!
