Steam really has become a great place to go for free game experiences, whether it’s amazing titles like Warframe and Counter-Strike 2, which never charge to play, or other releases offering time-limited forays where you can try before you buy.
Free Steam game promotions are ongoing all the time, and they usually helpfully coincide with the weekend, so you can really devote yourself to giving them a go (assuming you don’t have a dreaded Saturday shift).
Well, this past weekend has been no exception, with several games going free-to-play. But don’t worry if you feel like you’ve missed out, there are 24 more hours to give them a go and see if there are any inspired purchases that take your fancy.
Steam Gamers Can Play The Riftbreaker For Free
The headline act on Steam this time around is Riftbreaker, a 2021 solo or co-op base-building, survival game with action-RPG elements from developer EXOR Studios. If you’ve ever played early games in the genre like Starcraft, then you’ll immediately recognize the setup here, only it has a very pretty new coat of paint.
There’s a full campaign mode to get stuck into where you step into the role of Captain Ashley S. Nowak, a titular Riftbreaker. Essentially serving as an impressive combo of scientist and commando, you’ll be wearing a giant mechsuit, with the aim being to survive as long as possible.
Whilst you will be able to achieve victory in the campaign mode, there is also a survival mode where the main aim is just to get as far as you can. The co-op experiences available add another element to the experience, so jump on with a friend to see if you can get to the end before the free time runs out.
Steam Is Stacked With Free Games All The Time
As mentioned earlier, Steam is full of free game offerings all the time, and there are even others available right now that also have 24 hours left to go on their individual timers. If you’re a strategy or simulation fan, you can play the original Cities: Skylines for free at the moment, with many still considering it the best game in the series.
At the same time, Parkitect is also free, with the Booms and Blooms DLC free to keep forever if you claim it before time runs out when March 9 draws to a close. Otherwise, keep an eye on Steam, as more free games are being offered up all the time.
