The first trailer for Star Wars: Visions season 3 has debuted. The animated anthology series, which exists outside of Star Wars canon, returns with nine new anime episodes.
Despite not being canon, Visions is among the best Star Wars shows, with each episode having tremendous creative freedom due to not being constrained by canon. With a near-perfect 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the series has also been a hit with critics.
Now, Lucasfilm has released the Visions season 3 trailer, which features the return of the Jedi-turned-Sith the Ronin from “The Duel”, Lah Kara from “The Ninth Jedi”, and Jedi survivor F from “The Village Bride” in season 1. Check out the trailer below:
In addition to the trailer, StarWars.com reveals that Oscar nominee Stephanie Hsu, Shōgun star and Emmy winner Anna Sawai, Steve Buscemi, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Simu Liu, The Boys‘ Karen Fukuhara, Wednesday‘s Emma Myers, and Star Trek legend George Takei are joining the English dub cast for season 3.
What This Means For Star Wars: Visions Season 3
The season 3 trailer shows how Visions is no longer an anthology series where every episode features an entirely different story and cast of characters. Season 3 marks the first time that the series has continued previous stories with the episodes that follow the Ronin, Lah Kara, and F.
This is not the only way that Visions is building on previous stories, as a spinoff series titled Star Wars: Visions Presents: The Ninth Jedi is also on the way. The season 3 episode “The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope” will continue Kara’s story and is likely to help set up the spinoff as well.
While continuing to tell some of the most memorable Jedi and Sith stories from season 1, six of the upcoming episodes will focus on brand-new narratives, just as the former seasons have done. After previously featuring the likes of Lucy Liu, Neil Patrick Harris, and David Harbour, it is no surprise to see the English dub cast be incredibly star-studded this time as well.
Liu and Takei were already part of the Star Wars: Visions season 1 cast, but Hsu, Sawai, Buscemi, Fukuhara, and Myers are all newcomers to the series, and they are primarily starring in the episodes focused on new characters and stories.
Our Take On The Star Wars: Visions Season 3 Trailer
Star Wars: Visions has worked well as a true anthology series, but some of the episodes have also felt like the pilot episode for a much larger story. It is satisfying to see season 3 taking advantage of that potential with a balance of new and familiar narratives. This can ensure that the series continues to feel fresh without abandoning some of the most compelling storylines.
