Star Wars Outlaws is an unfortunate casualty of multiple circumstances, such as its release during a low point in Star Wars fandom (all it truly had going for it was the enduring Andor: A Star Wars Story hype) and longstanding criticisms about how Ubisoft’s open-world games are typically designed, and a planned sequel was reportedly canceled thereafter. However, players who do enjoy the game have become more vocal about wanting a Star Wars Outlaws 2 that may never come.
On Reddit, user Spardath01 has been hoping that other fans of the game will rally behind them and sign an online petition to have their voices heard, in hopes of securing the sequel’s release. It is highly unlikely that this petition will turn out to significantly alter the doomed fate of Star Wars Outlaws, but it is heartwarming to see so many gamers defending what is legitimately a solid Star Wars game, even if you are not enthusiastic about its combat or stealth sequences.
Star Wars Outlaws Deserves A Sequel
Fans have made excellent points about how disastrously low the potential for a Star Wars Outlaws sequel is, given that Star Wars Outlaws underperformed and Ubisoft recently canceled a bunch of games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake. That makes it even more tragic, then, that others have begun to crawl out of the woodwork to express how badly they want to see a sequel.
Many fans of it may not have played it when it was released, either. As user kloudrunner writes, “Still need to finish it but I’m glad I took a chance and it changed my opinion.” Likewise, user jahmahaa acknowledges how much gamers themselves likely played a role in Star Wars Outlaws’ early demise: “Guess we have ourselves to thank for that with all that hate it was given. When in reality it was a really good star wars game. Lesson learned!”
Others are providing reasons why a sequel likely isn’t moving forward: “All Star Wars media for the past 2 years has suffered low viewership/sales. Ubisoft were not wrong. Outlaws unfortunately followed a few highly publicised poorly received projects. A year prior and it would have done better. The grifters lying hurt the game more than anything. This game reviewed higher than Jedi Fallen Order btw; the second best selling SW game of all time.”
Star Wars Outlaws Is A Great Star Wars Game
There are a lot of fair critiques about Star Wars Outlaws’ gameplay and story, but its exploration and immersion are arguably phenomenal, especially with Star Wars Outlaws being the first-ever single-player open-world Star Wars game. For it to have blemishes was virtually unavoidable in this regard, and yet there is much to love about racing a speeder around and meandering in bustling slums throughout a galaxy far, far away.
Sabacc is basically The Witcher 3’s Gwent, but stylized as a Star Wars-in-continuity, high-stakes, fictional card game, and its reputation system was glorious, with several unique criminal syndicates thatplayers could either befriend or betray. If we never receive a direct sequel to Star Wars Outlaws, its core genetic essence will hopefully transcend it and inspire future games like it.
