Squid Game season 3 may have concluded the original series, but it sets up a major Gi-hun story to be fulfilled in the American spinoff. Squid Game season 3‘s primary focus was on Gi-hun trying to survive the games after his failed coup against the Front Man in season 2. Unfortunately, most Squid Game characters died before the final game.
However, Gi-hun was faced with a horrible choice in the final episode: sacrifice himself for Jun-hee’s baby, or drop the child and live. Squid Game season 3 ends with him falling off the final platform in Sky Squid Game, making the baby the winner. However, this doesn’t mean his fight against the games is over, given what he actually won.
The Front Man Was Changed By Gi-hun’s Death
Gi-hun Won Their Ideological Battle
Although he died, Gi-hun still won his ideological battle with the Front Man. Despite the number of major deaths in Squid Game season 3 and threats to him and the baby, Gi-hun never faltered in his humanity. This included rejecting the main antagonist’s help to kill all other contestants before Sky Squid Game, something that clearly rattled the Front Man.

Although American Squid Game hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, many perfect games popular with US children would be entertaining in a spinoff.
His final action in the series is to give Gi-hun’s daughter the rest of his money from when he won the games in season 1. This gesture shows how he’s conceded to the protagonist despite his death, seemingly changed by what happened. This sets the stage for his own potential role in bringing the games down in the future.
How The Front Man Could Continue Gi-hun’s Battle Against The Games
The Final Episode Set Up His Disillusionment With The Games
Based on the end of season 3, it’s clear Gi-hun’s actions – from his sacrifice to refusing to kill other players before the final game – had an impact on the Front Man. Although the depth of his inner change hasn’t been explored beyond him giving Gi-hun’s daughter his money, it’s possible his own ideology about people has changed in the process.
If the Front Man decides to start fighting back against the games himself, he can continue Gi-hun’s mission in Squid Game‘s American rendition.
If it has, then he could see the error of his ways in hosting the games. This could lead to him fighting to take them down from the inside. If he chooses to go down such a path, it could happen in Squid Game‘s American spinoff, with him seeing the American Recruiter in Los Angeles laying the groundwork.
If the Front Man decides to start fighting back against the games himself, he can continue Gi-hun’s mission in Squid Game‘s American rendition. This would allow the dangling thread of his story arc to weave into the franchise’s next chapter, while also picking up the mission where the former protagonist left off.
