Solo Leveling Is Ready to Say Goodbye to Sung Jinwoo’s Son

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Solo Leveling: Ragnarok!!

As fans eagerly await confirmation of Solo Leveling Season 3, it’s impossible not to wonder what’s next in Sung Jinwoo’s story, which has expanded from the original light novel. Solo Leveling: Ragnarok revealed the only one who would dare challenge Jinwoo for the title of the strongest hunter is his son, Sung Suho. Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to Suho.

Despite the criticism towards next-gen spin-off series like Boruto, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok was well-received by fans, especially thanks to Suho being a better protagonist than Jinwoo. Therefore, although Solo Leveling: Ragnarok‘s light novel finished this year, its open ending had fans expecting its return. Unfortunately, Solo Leveling‘s author, Chugong, hinted that Suho might not be returning as we know him.

Solo Leveling’s Creator Is Interested in Writing His Own Sequel

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is more popular than ever, with the manhwa recently returning from its hiatus and confirmed to have a print release in English by Ize Press soon. However, it has been revealed by the series’ creator that the Solo Leveling sequel is nothing more than fan service.

In a recent interview with the Russian digital service, LitRes, (translated by @SoloLevelingGuy on X), Chugong clarified that Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is not a continuation of the story but a spin-off project that shows one of the possible scenarios in the universe of the series. The author even compared Solo Leveling: Ragnarok with Marvel’s multiverse.

Ragnarok was a spin-off created for fan service. I was curious to see how another author would write Solo Leveling. This story is part of the Solo Leveling universe, but it isn’t a direct continuation of the main plot. It’s more like one of many possible scenarios — similar to Marvel’s parallel universes. And of course, I’m also considering the possibility of writing a sequel myself. — Chugong.

Unlike the original light novel, Solo Leveling: Ragnarok is written by Daul, and Chugong doesn’t participate in its creative process. However, since Chugong is considering writing a sequel, this could differ completely from Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, either by not focusing on Suho’s character or by introducing a different version of him than the one fans are already used to.

There’s a Lot To Look Forward to From Solo Leveling’s Story

While this is the first time Chugong has shown interest in continuing Jinwoo’s story, the author recently expressed his desire to publish special spin-offs centered on Igris and Ashborn’s past. Unfortunately, it has yet to be officially announced when these Solo Leveling spin-offs will be available, or even if they will be a reality.

Additionally, in Daul’s statement in the epilogue of Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, he teased that Jinwoo’s story will live on. Likewise, Solo Leveling has become one of Korea’s most successful media franchises of the moment. So even if Suho’s story doesn’t represent Chugong’s vision for how Solo Leveling should continue, fans could see another version of him in the future.
