In Outer Worlds 2, one decision can make a huge impact on the rest of the game. Obsidian is no stranger to this type of finality, but when in doubt, create a save file, and reload if you’re unsure about a major choice.
In this case, though, with Ava and Svoboda, it’s pretty clear-cut. There’s one choice that gives you a massive advantage, so you’ll want to think carefully before pulling the trigger on this one.
Siding With Alva [Marisol] Gets You A Companion
It’s The Path Of Least Resistance
After completing the Vox Relay portion of the campaign on Paradise Island, you’ll be granted access to Golden Ridge, where you can find, side with, and recruit Alva (who is actually known as Marisol). Pick up the questline On The Trail Of A Traitor, follow the path to Zyranium Manufactory VII, and complete the quest Beginning At The Endpoint. After you’re finished, you’ll have the chance to side with Alva or Svoboda, so start thinking about your choice early.
As you explore the underground area and slowly piece things together, you’ll learn that Svoboda is actually the saboteur and is framing Alva. When confronted with the choice, just support “Alva,” and she’ll make it out alive, killing Svoboda in the process, and joining your crew as a companion.
This path is highly recommended, as you’ll gain access to Marisol as a companion for the entire rest of the game, as well as her expertise and abilities. You’ll also be granted access to a secret room with some loot and lore kernels.
Siding With Svoboda Gets You Basically Nothing
But The Choice Is Yours
While you still gain access to the secret room, siding with Svoboda isn’t nearly as desirable an outcome. The Outer Worlds 2 has a fixed approach to this story, meaning that Svoboda will always be the saboteur and will always be guilty.
There is no real wiggle room here, so if you’re playing a chaotic character, you can opt for this choice to keep things interesting. The only really unique experience is getting to fight Marisol as an enemy combatant, though you can do this and reload your save to side with her if you want to try this path out.
If you want justice to be done and to gain a new companion, however, you should side with Marisol for this one. The choice is yours, though, and that’s why The Outer Worlds 2 is going to appeal to so many RPG fans.
