Ridley Scott’s Canceled 4-Part WWII Sci-Fi Series Is Finally Coming To Netflix 7 Years Later

Ridley Scott’s canceled four-season World War II sci-fi series, The Man in the High Castle, is finally coming to Netflix seven years later.

Produced by Ridley Scott and based on Philip K. Dick’s 1962 novel of the same name, The Man in the High Castle aired on Prime Video for four seasons from 2015 to 2019 before it was canceled by Amazon, with the fourth season serving as the final shortened installment rather than concluding with a planned fifth season.

Now, seven years later, all four seasons of Prime Video’s The Man in the High Castle are finally coming to Netflix in the United States on March 11, as part of the streaming service’s surprise licensing deal with MGM. For now, all four seasons of The Man in the High Castle are still streaming on Prime Video and MGM+.

Ridley Scott directed Blade Runner (1982), an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Created by Frank Spotnitz, The Man in the High Castle follows an alternate history in which the Axis powers, including Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan, have won World War II and rule the globe, and a young woman discovers a mysterious film that may hold the key to toppling the totalitarian regimes.

The Man in the High Castle‘s cast includes Alexa Davalos, Rupert Evans, Luke Kleintank, DJ Qualls, Joel de la Fuente, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Rufus Sewell, Brennan Brown, Callum Keith Rennie, Bella Heathcote, Chelah Horsdal, Michael Gaston, Jason O’Mara, Frances Turner, and many more.

Over the course of its four-season run, The Man in the High Castle received mostly positive reviews for its intricate narrative and immersive world-building, resulting in an average 84% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics, coupled with a 79% audience score.

While technically a major success, becoming Prime Video’s most-popular original series upon its premiere in 2019, it did not achieve the widespread cultural impact that Amazon had originally hoped for, leading to a feeling that it underperformed relative to its high cost and high expectations. However, The Man in the High Castle is about to become a lot more popular by streaming on Netflix.
