The Resident Evil franchise has just come back in a very big way with the release of Requiem, with fans and critics alike lauding it as the best entry in the series for a very long time.
Over on Reddit, one user shared an update from well-known leaker Dusk Golem, in which they confirmed that production on a Resident Evil 1 Remake is underway, with a launch still a few years away.
It’s A Good Time To Be A Resident Evil Fan
The stark contrast between Leon’s action-focused gameplay and Grace’s more stealthy, horror-based interactions has made it the highest-scoring game on Metacritic in history, overtaking the recent andexcellent Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Given the more impressive hardware available to developers in 2026, Capcom took full advantage and delivered an experience that is considerably more immersive than much of what we’d had to date, and it bodes very well for the future.
Whilst the developers themselves have remained relatively tight-lipped about plans moving forward, there are plenty of leaks and inside sources suggesting we could all be eating very well for years to come.
That leak lays out an interesting future where all of these games are on the way over the next few years:
- RECV remake (2027)
- RE0 remake (2028)
- RE10 (2029)
- RE1R (no date yet)
That’s a pretty spectacular future where we get to return to new and refreshed versions of some classic games, with one a year for the foreseeable future. It’s fair to say that fans were happy to see the news as well, with most believing that more Resident Evil can only be a good thing.
“Just keep pumping out good RE games (yes, even RE3 Remake is good though disappointing at the same time) and I’ll keep buying them,” one comment read.
“The first act of Requiem makes me think they’ve still got the juice and can do RE1 and Code Veronica justice. I actually found its resource management more interesting than what they did with RE2R, and that’s impressive. I’m glad they’re remaking RE0 as well because that game is booty. It has a great concept though, so it’s the perfect choice for a remake,” another added.
Where Can Resident Evil Go From Here?
As much as their recent successes have been great to see, it does mean Capcom is in a crucial moment. Resident Evil Requiem was so far beyond the expectations of even the most optimistic fan, that it will have implicitly raised the bar for all future releases moving forward.
Not to say they can’t meet those expectations, but the quality will have to be very good to do so. The real watermark will be the direct sequel, but the myriad remakes have to keep the momentum going in the meantime.
In any case, it’s currently a great time to be a Resident Evil fan, and there’s no reason that it can’t stay that way for years to come.
