Report, result, goals as Vuskovic stars and Kudus debuts in Frank’s first game

Thomas Frank oversaw a comfortable win in his first non-competitive match as Tottenham manager with a 2-0 win at League One side Reading courtesy of second-half goals by Will Lankshear and new signing Luka Vuskovic.

Vuskovic – an 18-year-old centre-back who completed a long-agreed move from Hadjuk Split this summer – made an almost instant impact by sending fellow new signing Mohammed Kudus’s delivery into the path of 20-year-old forward Lankshear to break the deadlock in the 49th minute.

Four minutes later, Kudus teed up Vuskovic for a low, angled finish from just inside the box on the left, finding the far corner of the net as part of a memorable first appearance for the Croatia newcomer.

Winger Kudus, who completed a £55 million move from West Ham last week, joined Vuskovic in coming on as Frank changed his entire team at the break.

The Dane replaced Ange Postecoglou on June 12, taking over a side who finished 17th in 2024/25 and won the Europa League.

Mohammed Kudus stats

Born in the suburb of Nima in Ghanaian capital Accra, Kudus joined the famous Right to Dream football academy as a 10-year-old before moving to Danish club Nordsjalland in January 2018.

Future Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag took the 19-year-old to Ajax for around £7.8m in July 2020 and received a return of 19 goals and seven assists in all competitions the following season, including strikes against Liverpool, Napoli and Rangers in the Champions League.

Ghana started Kudus in their three games at the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar, where he scored twice in a 3-2 win over South Korea as part of a total of 12 goals in 42 caps.

The 2023 Footballer of the Year in his homeland, Kudus joined West Ham for £38m in August 2023 and produced 18 goals and 10 assists in 48 games in 2023/24.

Kudus contributed five goals and three assists in 32 Premier League games last season, including two of each during the final eight matches of the campaign.

He started in 31 of those games, although Potter, who joined in January, suggested Kudus would have viewed his season as “a little bit disappointing”.

“Not because of his lack of effort or anything like that, but sometimes these things happen,” Potter said in March. “Speaking personally, he’s been great with us in terms of how he’s worked every day – fantastic.
