With only a few short weeks to go until the show returns for its final outing, HBO dropped a full-length trailer for The Righteous Gemstones season 4. Opening with Jesse’s newest invention, the Prayer Pod, the trailer then catches up with the rest of the clan after they traveled to Florida to fetch Eli, who had retired to the Sunshine State. Kelvin and Keefe run a pro-LGBTQ+ ministry, and Jesse chafes against criticism. Narration also hints at a “war against Christianity” in the US which the Gemstone family aim to fight in their misanthropic manner.

Expect The Ensemble To Return
The cast of The Righteous Gemstones season 4 should include the same faces that carried it through the first three seasons. Danny McBride, who is also an executive producer, stars as Jesse Gemstone, the elder son who is crude and arrogant, and who has broken more than his fair share of laws. Adam DeVine is Kelvin Gemstone, the youngest son and youth pastor. Edi Patterson is Judy Gemstone, the middle child and only daughter, and someone who remains prone to neurotic behavior. Overseeing all the chaos is John Goodman’s Eli Gemstone, the patriarch who tries to keep order.
New cast members have also joined season 4, with Will & Grace star Megan Mullally set to play Lori Milsap, an old family friend of the Gemstones who used to write music with Aimee-Leigh. Sean William Scott (American Pie) will play the role of Corey, Lori’s son, who is a life-long friend of the Gemstone children. It’s unclear how they’ll fit into the story, but the extended family rarely gets along with the main Gemstone clan.

Unlike previous seasons of The Righteous Gemstones, which had a clear antagonist, it seems as if the fourth and final outing will be a bit more complex. Trailers show the family up to their old antics, devising new ways to bilk their flock with paid “Prayer Pods” and Kelvin and Keefe’s pro-gay ministry. Meanwhile, the younger Gemstones convince Eli to come out of retirement, and it’s hinted that he’s begun seeing other women, which irks his immature children. The arrival of the Milsaps is another source of potential conflict, but nothing is confirmed yet.
