Despite coming out almost a decade ago, Red Dead Redemption 2 is still one of the most visually stunning games that we’ve ever been treated to as players. As such, it’s no surprise that players want to see some of their favorite locations and stories rendered within its engine.
Whether you’re looking to bring a little bit of the post-apocalypse into proceedings with a mod like Fallout New Austin or re-enacting WW2 in the D-Day mod, there’s a little something out there for everyone.
Another area of modding that’s really being explored right now is the return of locations and characters from the original Red Dead Redemption, and one mod in particular has gone above and beyond to make it a stunning reality.
Red Dead Redemption Remade In RDR2 Is A Thing Of Beauty
Over on YouTube, you can find a trailer for Project New Austin 1907, a highly ambitious project that brings back many of the classic locations from the first game, as well as changing the color scheme to fit the original New Austin.
The mod adds iconic locations including Armadillo, Plainview, and Gaptooth Breach, as well as smaller featured spots like Critchley’s and Warthingon Ranch, Cueva Seca, Venter’s Place, Pike’s Basin, Blackwater docks, Macfarlane’s Ranch, Coot’s Chapel, and Manzanita Post.
It also adds changes to the weather cycle that fit the first game more closely, with additional greenery for the landscape and the removal of sand/dust storms.
Fans were predictably complimentary, with one saying, “Dude, this update was SO good man, I love the new interiors like the ferry and wreck of serendipity and oil refinery thing, also I love that you got the McFarlanes ranch, the original ranch mod was good and this was a cool improvement, keep up the great work, you and all the other people who helped on this. Y’all are great.”
“Wow, this is incredible, high quality and the level of detail is something Rockstar needs for the end of the game,” another added.
A third was prepared to make a big investment, just to give the mod a try, saying, “This is the sole reason I’m saving up for a new PC, I need this in my life.”
This Project Shows How Dedicated Fans Are
The amount of work that’s gone into the mod is genuinely quite difficult to comprehend, and it’s a testament to the game that Rockstar Games built that people are willing to spend so long working with its modding tools.
In even better news, the mod was last updated in January, with improvements still being made to performance and features across the board.
