Real Madrid have cooled their interest in signing Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, according to Spanish website Fichajes.
The La Liga giants are aiming to land a marquee midfielder next summer, and Mac Allister has been closely monitored by the club’s scouts.
However, Los Blancos have decided against following up with an approach, given his drop in performance levels and fitness concerns.
Instead, they are exploring alternatives. Crystal Palace‘s Adam Wharton and Chelsea‘s Enzo Fernandez are being tracked by Madrid scouts too.
Madrid are unlikely to make a formal approach until next summer. This could hamper their chances of landing Wharton in particular.
Manchester United are also firm admirers of the former Blackburn Rovers graduate and they are planning a winter move for his services.
Wharton has yet to open the door for a winter transfer, but he is unlikely to turn down the prospect of joining the Red Devils if a deal is agreed.
