Ravichandran Ashwin picks the player to watch out for Scotland in T20 World Cup 2026

Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has officially pinpointed Scotland’s Brandon McMullen as his primary ‘player to watch’ for the 2026 edition. Speaking on his show Ash ki Baat, Ashwin noted that he has been tracking the all-rounder since his breakout performance against Australia in the previous World Cup. Ashwin shared his high praise for the 25-year-old’s ability to anchor the innings while maintaining a high strike rate:

“Then you’ve got Brandon McMullen. Brandon McMullen played in the last World Cup and in the Australia vs Scotland game, he scored a brilliant 50. And ever since, he’s been one of the key players. I’ve been keeping an eye on him. He’s a player to watch out for me.” Ashwin said.

Ashwin believes that despite their ’11th-hour’ entry, Scotland possesses a dangerous batting core that can surprise major nations. While he acknowledged that their bowling attack might be ‘restrictive,’ he highlighted the technical strength of their top-order players, specifically praising Michael Jones and captain Richie Berrington for their ability to play clinical, conventional strokes. Ashwin broke down the team’s strengths, stating:

“I think Scotland are a good T20 team. They have some ability in the bowling… but they’ve got classy batters. in form of Richie Berrington  and Michael Jones especially Jones is a classy player who plays really strong. He’s someone you can definitely expect classy strokes from.” Ashwin concluded.
