PSG v Strasbourg: Line-ups, stats and preview

Preview for PSG v Strasbourg

PSG will hope to have some of their walking wounded back for tomorrow night’s clash with Strasbourg at the Parc des Princes.

The European champions have struggled with injuries across the first few weeks of the season, perhaps not surprising given their hectic schedule which included reaching the final of the Club World Cup in the summer.

Despite that, they still lead the table albeit not with their customary large advantage. Luis Enrique’s men have 16 points from seven games, one clear of the chasing pack that includes Marseille, Strasbourg and Lyon. PSG have won one of their last three Ligue 1 games but tomorrow, as well as next week’s Champions League trip to Bayer Leverkusen, offer an excellent chance to reassert their dominance both domestically and in Europe.

The vibe from within the PSG camp remains positive with Spain midfielder Fabian Ruiz this week outlining the determination of the players to back-up their successes of last season.

Speaking to SoFoot, he said: “The hardest thing isn’t reaching the top, it’s staying there. The real challenge for us will be to win the Champions League three or four times. It won’t be easy, but who knows. What’s certain is that we will try everything we can to get there.

“The idea now is for this first star to be a turning point. Now that we have one, we have to try to win many more. I think we’ve seen through ourselves that giving our all is the key to success.”

That could be an ominous sign for Strasbourg, who are thriving on the field despite the continuing fan discontent with the club being owned by BlueCo.

English coach Liam Rosenior has built an exciting young side who went into the international break after a 5-0 thrashing of Angers.

Team News for PSG v Strasbourg

PSG hope to have several big names back tomorrow.

Desire Doue could return from a calf injury while Ousmane Dembele is also under consideration after showing promising signs in his recovery from a hamstring problem.

Both men will be assessed after training today, as will Bradley Barcola (thigh) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (hamstring). The Georgia winger is the most likely to return after playing 159 minutes across two games for his country over the international break.

Captain Marquinhos is definitely sidelined.

Strasbourg also have their issues with Mamadou Sarr, Emanuel Emegha and Sebastian Nanasi all doubtful. Former England international Ben Chilwell is set to return from illness.

  • PSG have never lost a home game against Strasbourg, winning their last six matches against them while scoring three or more goals in four of the previous five outings
  • Strasbourg have won four of their five away matches played across all competitions this season

Prediction for PSG v Strasbourg

The next two games offer a real opportunity for Luis Enrique and his players, and we think they will take it with both hands.

Strasbourg, under the shrewd leadership of Rosenior, will be no pushovers but PSG – especially if they can field a stronger line-up – ought to be too powerful, especially at home.

Prediction: PSG 2-0 Strasbourg
