Ousmane Dembele will not be risked in Paris Saint-Germain’s home game with Strasbourg tomorrow night with the Ballon d’Or winner given more time to overcome a troublesome hamstring problem.
Dembele is no stranger to hamstring injuries and has been sidelined for the past six weeks after suffering another setback while playing for France against Ukraine on September 5.
It had been suggested he could return to face high-flying Strasbourg at the Parc des Princes tomorrow but a PSG medical update this morning said the former Barcelona star was still “in the recovery phase” and would not play.
Desire Doue was also injured against Ukraine – he came off at half-time to be replaced by Dembele who was then struck down himself – but should return after not being named on the medical update.
There was less positive news, however, on Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves, two thirds of PSG’s much-vaunted midfield alongside Vitinha.
Spain international Ruiz is continuing his rehab from a groin injury while Neves remains sidelined with a hamstring problem.
Asked to assess the situation today, PSG boss Luis Enrique said: “I don’t know when the injured players will come back. We have training and I can see the level of the players during the sessions. We don’t take any risks with the health of the players.”
