Gen V gets a disappointing update about when a new semester will start at Godolkin University.
The Boys spinoff series follows Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and other supes as they attend Godolkin University and discover sinister conspiracies connected to Vought. Gen V season 2 ended with Marie and her friends being recruited by Annie January/Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) to join the resistance against Homelander. This setup and appearances by Marie and Jordan Li (via London Thor) in The Boys season 5 trailer confirms their upcoming returns, but whether Gen V is coming back for season 3 remains uncertain.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sinclair was asked if she had heard anything about Gen V‘s future and what her hopes are for the rest of Marie’s story. She shares that she has not heard anything yet about the spinoff coming back or anything else about its future. As for what she hopes will happen, she trusts the writers based on the material they have given her so far and hopes Marie will continue to be explored as a flawed individual. Check out Sinclair’s comments below:
I have not. I don’t know anything as far as what the future holds. Honestly, they do such a great job with my character. They start me somewhere and they end me somewhere else entirely. And so I would hope that continues, whatever kind of arc it is. In this second season, we got to see Marie make some bad choices and listen to the wrong people, and I always love that in a character. I never want to play characters who are perfect and two dimensional and not flawed. I really look for characters who f*** up, because we f*** up. I just would hope that they keep doing what they’re doing, which is giving me so much good material to work with.
Sinclair’s response keeps the future of Gen V uncertain only days before The Boys season 5 premieres on Prime Video. This does not necessarily mean that there won’t be a season 3, as it could still be announced after The Boys‘ final season, which will inevitably reshape the world that Marie and the other characters live in.
Laz Alonso, who plays Mother’s Milk in the franchise, also seemingly hinted that the spinoff will continue at Seattle’s Emerald City Comic Con 2026 when he said, “You got Gen V and then Vought Rising which are the two shows that gonna probably continue the legacy as we finish our chapter in storytelling.” That being said, even if the spinoff does come back, the main star not knowing anything about it yet means that any potential production is seemingly not happening soon, and there would be a long wait for season 3.
The franchise’s other live-action spinoff, Vought Rising, wrapped filming earlier this year and the Jensen Ackles-led series has a release window. The Boys creator Eric Kripke says the show will debut in 2027 since it will take eight months to complete the VFX work and Amazon needs time to localize the series to various markets. Vought Rising began filming in 2025 and there was a two-year gap between The Boys seasons 4 and 5. If Gen V season 3 happens and follows this timeline, it likely would not be released until late 2027 at the earliest, given that season 2’s episode came out in September and October 2025.
As for which other Gen V characters could join Marie and Jordan in The Boys season 5, it stands to reason that her other friends who are present in the spinoff’s season 2 finale may appear as well. This includes Emma Meyer (Lizze Broadway), Sam Riordan (Asa Germann), Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips), and Marie’s sister Annabeth Moreau (Keeya King). Sam and Cate have already been in The Boys, appearing in season 4 after becoming the new Guardians of Godolkin in Gen V season 1’s ending, but their loyalties have shifted since then.
These characters will not be the focus of The Boys season 5, though, with the series understandably focused on concluding the stories of Homelander, Annie, Hughie (Jack Quaid), Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), A-Train, and others who were introduced in the original show. For a deep dive back into the story of Marie, Jordan, Emma, Sam, Cate, and Annabeth, Gen V season 3 would need to happen.
The Boys season 5 begins with a two-episode premiere on April 8 on Prime Video.
