Pokémon Legends: Z-A is another open-world game that lets players roam around a large-scale area. However, one thing that sets Legends: Z-A apart is that its map is the urban sprawl of Lumiose City, as opposed to the segmented wild areas of the Hisui region in Legends: Arceus. This can make its map size feel slightly smaller, even if it’s technically more open than the previous Pokémon Legends game.
In Legends: Arceus, players used Jubilife Village as a hub while exploring various sections of the Hisui region. While technically each area was open-world, you weren’t free to go where you pleased, since each section had to be unlocked throughout the main story. Pokémon Legends: Z-A has this to some degree, but Lumiose City is freely explorable from pretty early on in the game, offering a truer open-world experience overall.
The following article contains slight gameplay spoilers for Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

How Big Is Lumiose City In Legends: Z-A?
The city proper is made up of various Wild Zones, restaurants, and shops. Visiting Pokémon Centers and other important landmarks will unlock fast travel to that location, which makes moving around Lumiose City much easier. Running from one end of the map to the other will take some time, but because it takes place in a city, there’s more to see, and it often feels like you haven’t moved much at all.
The above image of Lumiose City’s map is from the mid-game of Pokemon Legends: Z-A in order to avoid spoilers for later on.
It took two minutes and twenty-three seconds to get from the southernmost point of Lumiose City to the northernmost point, and that includes having to move around Prism Tower and cutting through Wild Zone 3 rather than walking around it.
As a complete world map, Lumiose City is fairly small, but the way Legends: Z-A is set up makes it feel much larger. This is mostly done through Wild Zones and then Battle Zones that are activated at night.
How Big Is Legends: Z-A’s Map Compared To Legends: Arceus?
Arceus Is Bigger, But Lumiose City Is Larger Than Jubilife Village
The time it takes to get across Lumiose City may not sound like much, but it makes it considerably larger than Jubilife Village, the main hub in Legends: Arceus. In terms of map to map, though, the Hisui region is much larger, thanks to its various Wild Zones. In fact, we estimate Lumiose City is about the size of the main Obsidian Fieldlands area in Legends: Arceus (photo #3 in the above gallery).
It’s worth noting that Lumiose City does open up more Wild Zones as the game continues, and that factoring in the inside of buildings, rooftops, and more can also contribute to its total map size. However, the map of Lumiose City in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is still smaller than the combined maps seen in Legends: Arceus.
