Now that Pokémon Winds and Waves have been officially revealed, we’re getting to see which previous leaks were true, which were false, and which are still up in the air. One of these is the leak surrounding a new Type allegedly being introduced in the Gen 10 games. With Winds and Waves not releasing until 2027, fans are already split on whether the new Type is a good idea or not.
Over on Reddit, Pokémon fans have been debating the leaked Type, which was first mentioned a few months ago by the account CentroLeaks, a leaker that has a solid enough track record. The leak claimed there will be a new Type called Seed Pokémon in Gen 10. Additionally, there’s a baby Pokémon of this Seed Type that can be found around resorts in Winds and Waves and will have “infinite variations.”
Pokémon Fans Are Torn Over This Winds & Waves Leak
If it had been true, this would be pretty huge news, since it’s been 13 years since the last new Type, Fairy, was introduced in the Gen 6 games, Pokémon X and Y. Since then, we’ve gotten gimmicks like Gigantamax and regional variants, but not actual new Types. Even though Seed Pokémon has been disproven, the idea of a new Type still had fans speculating.
“Terrible idea,” reads another comment under the original thread. Others, however, warmed up to the idea pretty quickly: “I think it’ll be more like Nebby in that it’s there to push the story along while keeping what will probably be revealed to be the version mascot at the end a secret,” wrote one user on the Reddit thread, talking about the Gen 7 Pokémon that later turned into the cover Legendary.
Could Pokémon Really Introduce A New Type?
Others weren’t quite convinced and pointed out that it was “A misunderstanding. it was text for the tcg series of gen 10 and in tcg seed is the code name for basic pokemon or the 1st form,” wrote another Reddit user at the time. This appears to be the case, as CentroLeaks later clarified the issue. If you were excited about the Seed Pokémon, it looks like that’s not happening.
The question remains whether a new Type will appear, however. Rumors have pointed to a new Eeveelution, which might be a new Type the way Sylveon was for Fairy. Right now, all of these leaks and rumors should be taken with a grain of salt. There’s simply too much we don’t know about Winds and Waves yet.
For fans torn over the idea of a new Type, we’ll have to wait and see if this actually happens. It looks like Seed Pokémon won’t be a thing, though. Hopefully, we’ll learn more throughout the year as Pokémon Winds and Waves prepares for launch in 2027.
