Parks & Recreation Star, 52, Reveals The Emotional Reason He Stopped Watching The Show

It’s not uncommon for an actor to avoid watching a show they’re in, but one Parks and Recreation cast member had to stop watching episodes for a heartbreaking reason. Parks and Rec is one of the best sitcoms of all time, partly due to the strength of its ensemble cast. However, that’s what has caused one of the show’s stars to stop watching.

The actor in question is Adam Scott, who played Ben Wyatt for most of Parks and Rec. While currently in the spotlight for leading the Severance cast, Scott is at the heart of some of Parks and Rec‘s best episodes, and his performance is what sells the character. Although Scott loved making the show, his adoration for Parks and Rec has created an unexpected problem.

Adam Scott Stopped Watching Parks & Rec Because He Misses Making The Show Too Much

The Severance star admitted that Parks & Rec makes him “sad” now

Appearing on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast (via People), Adam Scott spoke fondly about his time playing Ben Wyatt on Parks and Recreation. However, he also admitted that he now struggles to watch the show because of the bittersweet feelings of nostalgia it elicits.

“Honestly, because it makes me sad to see the show, because I miss them and I miss all the actors, even though we’re constantly in touch and stuff, but I miss the time of making it. It was a really just joyful five years.”

Adam Scott’s explanation is understandable and incredibly wholesome. Even though, by his own admission, he is still in regular contact with his former Parks and Rec co-stars, it would seem that those friendships were at their most rewarding when they were all working hard together to make the show.

It can be very easy for sitcoms to experience certain pitfalls, but Parks & Recreation managed to sidestep one of the genre’s biggest curses.

Ben only made his debut near the end of Parks and Recreation season 2, but became a series regular from then on. So, even though the actor didn’t enter the fold for pretty much the show’s first two runs, it’s nice to hear that he was accepted so wholeheartedly into the core cast.

The Parks & Rec Cast’s Amazing Chemistry Wasn’t Just For The Camera

The actors behind Ben Wyatt & the others get along in real life

There are plenty of examples of cast members in various shows not getting along on a personal level, but then having stellar chemistry whenever the camera starts rolling. Especially in the context of a sitcom, where audiences spend so much time with the characters and exploring their relationships, I always find this a little upsetting. Adam Scott’s comments reveal that this isn’t the case for the Parks and Rec cast.

Clips online of them reconnecting are often very heartwarming, which is even more evidence that Scott’s comments about watching the show are genuine.

The actors appear to have maintained close and genuine friendships that are as strong as ever. Clips online of them reconnecting are often very heartwarming, which is even more evidence that Scott’s comments about watching the show are genuine. The strength of their shared dynamic really shone through in Parks and Recreation, and its authenticity is a big reason why.
