New John Wick-Style Gritty WWII Thriller Instantly Climbs Up Netflix’s American Streaming Charts

A gritty, John Wick-style action movie is climbing Netflixs American streaming charts.

The new action thriller film, set during World War II, has become an instant success on the streaming platform, entering the Top 10 in the United States within days of its arrival. While there are plenty of World War II movies that deal with the war itself, there’s not as many which utilize eye-catching action to tell a uniquely driven story.

Such is the case with Sisu: Road to Revenge. A sequel to 2022’s Sisu, the film follows Jorma Tommila as Aatami Korpi, a former member of the Finnish Army who comes into conflict with the KGB in the aftermath of World War II. The movie follows his path of revenge after coming into contact with the man who killed his family during the war.

Now, FlixPatrol reports that Sisu: Road to Revenge has become an instant success on Netflix following its US release to the platform. According to data from March 23, 2026, the movie is the Number 3 film on Netflix in the US. This puts it just under The Bad Guys 2 and the Number 1 film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.

Why Sisu: Road To Revenge Is An Instant Streaming Success

The action movie’s success on Netflix isn’t without an already decorated history. Reviews for Sisu: Road to Revenge have been overwhelmingly positive from critics and audiences alike. As of writing, the movie holds a Certified Fresh 94% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, alongside a highly positive 87% from audiences.

Praise has been afforded not just to Tommila’s returning performance as Aatami, but also to Stephen Lang’s role as the villainous Yeagor Draganov, a Soviet officer who killed the protagonist’s family. Their battle with one another sends Aatami on a blood-soaked quest for vengeance, with a multitude of thrills and kills that offer satisfying results.

The movie has maintained long-term success despite being, by all accounts, a failure at the box office. Although critics and audiences loved the movie, Sisu: Road to Revenge only earned $9.8 million worldwide against a $12.2 million budget. Still, its Netflix success shows just how enthralled audiences are with the gory revenge thriller and its John Wick style.

Will Sisu 3 Ever Happen?

Sisu: Road to Revenge

Although the movie wasn’t a box office hit, the possibility of Sisu 3 happening hasn’t been ruled out. Writer-director Jalmari Helander has stated that, while there are no official plans for another movie in the franchise, there’s still a possibility a third movie could come out should there be a spark of an idea. Tommila has also expressed interest in returning.

Even without a sequel lined up, though, Sisu: Road to Revenge ends with what could be considered a definitive conclusion. Although the door is seemingly open for more, especially if it manages to continue its success on Netflix, the latest installment could very well be the last. If it is, then the franchise will have gone out with a bang.

As Sisu: Road to Revenge is a very new addition to Netflix‘s library, there’s plenty of time for the movie to continue performing highly on the platform. Even if a sequel doesn’t happen, the film’s success is a sign of just how much audiences are enjoying the action, making it a perfect follow-up to the original.
