Netflix‘s latest fantasy series returns with a rare Rotten Tomatoes score.
Fantasy is one of the genres that the streamer has consistently invested in, with the biggest example likely pointing to the fantastical elements of Stranger Things. There have also been attempts at cultivating other franchises, such as The Witcher, which is still going strong, and the short-lived Shadow and Bone. But some of Netflix’s biggest fantasy successes have occurred outside of the live-action space.
10 Best Fantasy Anime On Netflix
Netflix has some of the best fantasy anime in its streaming library, including Hunter X Hunter, One Piece, and Demon Slayer.
That is evidenced by the premiere of Devil May Cry season 2, which currently sits at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 7 reviews. The audience score for the action anime’s second season is likewise noteworthy, coming in at 83%, although the scores may fluctuate once more reviews and ratings are added.
Based on the Capcom video game franchise of the same name, Devil May Cry debuted in April 2025 on Netflix. The show begins by focusing on Dante (voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch), a young demon hunter who may prove to be the best chance for humanity’s survival when a shadowy antagonist threatens to open the gates of Hell.
With an impressive voice cast that includes Scout Taylor-Compton, Hoon Lee, Chris Coppola, Ian James Corlett, Robbie Daymond, Graham McTavish, and the late Kevin Conroy, the show’s first installment also debuted to a glowing response. It garnered 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 27 reviews, with praise for the action scenes and for a narrative that gains momentum as it goes along.
A lot of those same points continue to be praised for the new season, which dropped on May 12th and consists of 8 episodes. Devil May Cry‘s animation by Studio Mir is a particular highlight, as Grant Hermanns writes in his review for ScreenRant and says in part: “Going into season 2, Studio Mir has not only maintained the excellent quality of the show’s debut outing, but also given it something of an upgrade.”
Reviewing the anime adaptation for Collider, Aidan Kelly prefers the first installment but promises that the new episodes will still dazzle fans, especially with their visual flair. That may speak more to the high bar the series has established for itself, with Adi Shankar serving as executive producer and showrunner, and with the help of distinctive Devil May Cry needle drops.
For subscribers to Netflix who aren’t as familiar with anime, all of the show’s 16 episodes are on Netflix. It is worth getting to the Devil May Cry season 2 ending. It teases another installment, but it is a satisfying enough resolution for anyone curious to try a new streaming original.
