Squid Game was a viral sensation upon its release in 2021. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series is known for its prescient dystopian themes and creative use of its death game setup. The first season of the series was also critically acclaimed.
This led to the release of Squid Game season 2 in December 2024, and then Squid Game season 3 this year. The second and third seasons were far more divisive in their reception, leading some to claim that the series had an underwhelming ending.
That said, Squid Game‘s Netflix success has still been helpful for Korean-language content as a whole. While K-dramas were already popular in their home country, the series has dramatically increased interest in K-dramas globally.
This has led to Netflix producing more and more Korean-language content, with a plan revealed earlier this year that would include 29 titles. This has been incredibly successful for the platform so far, as multiple K-dramas have gotten strong Netflix viewership.
Several of these titles have included actors from Squid Game. Lee Byung-hun, who plays In-Ho in Squid Game, also appeared in the movie The Match, which released on Netflix this year. Now, two actors from Squid Game have reunited for a new Netflix film.
Squid Game Stars Kang Ha-neul & Kang Ae-sim Reunite In Wall To Wall
Coincidentally, They Have A Mother & Son Relationship
Wall to Wall just released on Netflix on July 18. The movie is a Korean-language film about a man who buys an apartment only to have his fulfilled dream turn nightmarish. He is faced with mysterious noises from other floors and financial ruin. Wall to Wall is co-directed by Kim Tae-joon and Sharon S. Park.
Kang Ha-neul and Kang Ae-sim both appear in Wall to Wall. The pair played a mother and son competing together in Squid Game seasons 2 and 3. While they survived to see season 3, both characters faced unfortunate fates in the series.
Squid Game audiences will notice some overlap between the show and the pair’s relationship in Wall to Wall. Once again, they play a mother and son. The characters are in different circumstances for the new Netflix film, but still face a lot of pressure in their lives.
The appearance of both actors will be a major draw to Wall to Wall. Their Squid Game characters were fan favorites to many in the second and third seasons, as viewers rooted for the survival of this little family. As such, Kang Ha-neul and Kang Ae-sim can help propel Wall to Wall to success, adding on to Netflix’s K-drama reign.
