Netflix's Best K-Drama Bromance Is Returning with Season 2

With many K-dramas offering a characteristic warmth to their tones, their romances are naturally a major draw, but are also not the whole picture. In the case of action thrillers like Bloodhounds, with season 2 set to return on April 3 to Netflix, Studio N’s hit drama put loyal mama’s boy and rising star boxer Kim Gun-woo and former delinquent/eternal marine Hong Woo-jin together. Three years later, the back, and the bromance is still alive.

In Bloodhounds season 2, instead of Gun-woo facing off with Woo-jin in the ring, Woo-jin’s in Gun-woo’s corner as his coach, as he sees his friend through to boxing glory. They still share meals together, each supporting and caring for Gun-woo’s mother, and most importantly to season 2’s plot, not abandoning each other when a horrific syndicate tries to sink its claws into them. While Woo-jin’s no longer a competitive boxer, make no mistake—he can still throw an absolute haymaker against those who threaten his friends. But with a threat much bigger than them this time, their endurance and loyalty will be tested to the max in the near future.

Netflix’s Best Action Thriller Brings Back the Gun-woo and Woo-jin Bromance

As Bloodhounds fans are doubtlessly aware, season 1 was loaded to the brim with moments that sealed the brotherly chemistry between Woo Do-hwan (Gun-woo) and Lee Sang-yi (Woo-jin). They became fast friends, getting meals together, training side-by-side, and even saving each other’s lives in wildly close calls against the heinous Smile Capital loan sharks. In season 2, no longer bound by debt, the two are bound by their mutual desire to thrive in life, and uphold Gun-woo’s mother, Yo-seon, as she grows her business. Much like in season 1, this means bickering about pork belly cooking techniques and sleeping under the same roof.

But Bloodhounds fans also know the series isn’t all about getting whiskey-drunk and high-impact training regimens. The moment a new predatory threat, preying on high-stakes debtors, tries to recruit, then extort, then attack Gun-woo’s home, Woo-jin doesn’t hesitate to fight back, and help investigate the enemy, as the two unearth a vast, dark web-dwelling organization known as the IKFC.

One of the best action K-dramas on Netflix returns soon, and, this time around, it will seemingly come off as a combination of Rocky & Ninja Assassin.

Despite each urging the other to get to safety, they consistently have each other’s back, although beyond Screen Rant being shown episodes #1-2 in advance, it’s uncertain whether the new villain, Im Baek-jeong, will exploit that.

Gun-woo and Woo-jin’s Stakes Are Greater Than Ever for Bloodhounds Season 2

With even defending boxing champions potentially falling victim to Baek-jeong and the IKFC, it’ll be interesting to see just how far past the line these new villains cross in Bloodhounds season 2. Given the hideous crimes of Smile Capital, Netflix and Studio N’s webtoon adaptation is inevitably expected to up the ante, to appropriately match Gun-woo’s elite fighting skills. Given the series pushes into even more original territory than season 1’s loose adaptation of Jeong Chan’s manhwa, it’ll be fascinating to see Bloodhounds balance the high-stakes thriller drama and bromance at its core as Gun-woo and Woo-jin face a vast, ruthless new nemesis.

Thus, when they turn to her for support and shelter, they inevitably bring danger to her doorstep, alongside Gun-woo’s mother. Beyond each other, both Woo-jin and Gun-woo appear to have at least one specific person they absolutely must protect.

What’s exciting, beyond all of this, is just how much the series dives all in on the action component. Gun-woo and Woo-jin are no strangers to coming back battered or even clinging to life, but even now, with more resources and allies at the ready, the series knows just how precarious the position of its two stars are, and how devastating it’ll be if the audience is to lose either of them or their loved ones.

Bloodhounds season 2 is a thrilling return of the bromance everybody knows and loves, but it also marks the return of the gripping tension. It’s not just the tension of its BL-coded camaraderie, either, but for fans as they watch this pair face an unflinching IKFC hell-bent on adding Gun-woo to its roster.
